Luis Antonio Dámaso de Alonso

Post by Fedya »

Today marks the birth anniversary of Mexican born actor Luis Antonio Dámaso de Alonso, who was born December 11, 1905.

OK, you probably don't recognize that name, because he used a stage name under which he's much more recognizable to fans around here:

Gilbert Roland, who appeared in dozens of movies in a career spanning over 50 years, among them being "the Gaucho" in The Bad and the Beautiful, seen above with Elaine Stewart.

What's your favorite Gilbert Roland film?

OUR BETTERS (1933) with Constance Bennett (whom he was married to at the time.)
I always enjoy Gilbert Roland. I think he brightens every film in which he's cast.

Yesterday I was watching Wagon Train and there was Gilbert Roland. What a fine actor with a very charming screen persona.

My favorite Roland films are:

Juarez, The Sea Hawk, We Were Strangers, Malaya, The Furies, The Bad and the Beautiful, Thunder Bay, That Lady, and Bandido.
