Like Button
There is now a "Like" button on the forum. It's not the one I was going to add, because that one is now abandoned (risking no updates or breaking the forum if we update to a new version and it's not compatible). HOWEVER...it is a working "Like" button. You can see the thumb on the top right above a post. It will display the likes and who liked the post underneath of the post itself. Hopefully it's not too obtrusive and doesn't get used in place of actual discussion, but we shall see. Thanks. Like. Enjoy.

Re: Like Button
That's great however I don't have the Like icon on my posts in the right corner. There are 4 icons but no thumbs up. I did get a pm saying you liked 2 of my posts and then 2 pms saying they were removed.

Re: Like Button
Yeah, I don't see a Like button on my messages either. I think that's the way the button works; i.e., you can't like your own message.KayFrancis wrote: ↑February 17th, 2023, 3:55 pm That's great however I don't have the Like icon on my posts in the right corner. Re: Like Button
So does that mean you can see a Like icon on everyone else's posts, just not on your own ?

Re: Like Button
Well, just like how those Brits spell certain words, wouldn't "liking your own message" be sort of superfluous anyway???EP Millstone wrote: ↑February 17th, 2023, 3:58 pmYeah, I don't see a Like button on my messages either. (...btw Lomm, thanks...your efforts in this were/are greatly appreciated)
Re: Like Button
This is correct, you won't see the button on your own posts. The reason you got the PMs is because I was just testing it out.KayFrancis wrote: ↑February 17th, 2023, 3:55 pm That's great however I don't have the Like icon on my posts in the right corner. Re: Like Button
Thanks Lomm. I can see the like button. It makes sense that you can't like your own posts, that's sort of normal practice. I assume you can see who liked your post, though.
A like button is useful when words might be unnecessary. As Mae West says to Harold Huber in Klondike Annie, "Can't you ever say anything the short way?" A like button can be a way to say something the short way.
And so:
"This business is well ended.
My liege, and madam, to expostulate
What majesty should be, what duty is,
Why day is day, night night, and time is time,
Were nothing but to waste night, day and time.
Therefore, since brevity is the soul of wit,
And tediousness the limbs and outward flourishes,
I will be brief: your noble son is mad:
Mad call I it; for, to define true madness,
What is't but to be nothing else but mad?
But let that go."
(Of course despite the fact that I quote Polonius, he is sort of a jerk.)

Re: Like Button
Very Good Lomm. Should keep the wagons from circling.
I noticed a thumbs down after I liked your post.
Pressing it will erase the like but it has to be confirmed first.
We all thank you a million times.
EDIT: Well ... If someone likes your post, it creates a notification.

And now we bring you the reaction of those who for whatever reason or reasons (and beyond my abilities to fully comprehend) opposed this whole thing...
