TURNER CLASSIC MOVIES NEWS

Post by GaryCooper »

^^
I also love seeing the changing audience at the film festival. People think, "Well, TCM, it's just going to be a lot of old white people." But that's really changing. We're seeing younger people, different demographics, and lots of a bigger variety, the diverse crowd at the film festival starting to emerge over the years. That's exciting to see younger people claim classic films. We need them for the future generation.

Is Turner Classic Movies Going to Shutdown?
Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, & Paul Anderson Are Trying to Save TCM
https://cordcuttersnews.com/is-turner-c ... -save-tcm/
This is the site I follow the most for cord cutting.
More important is the link CCN posted from IndieWire.
https://www.indiewire.com/features/comm ... 234877220/
I believe WBD is like so many who only care about the bottom line.
I don't buy the idea of making Warner Bros. a better studio.
Of course better probably means more money.
I complain about how TCM is operated as much as anyone probably.
Bottom line is it needs to stay and be saved.
It is the only channel I know of without any revenue from advertising.
I suggest making Watch TCM, just as it is, a stand alone streaming service.
The East/West live feed without the need for credentials from cable, satellite, or other streaming.
Then the On Demand titles.
Take TCM titles away from Max.
Charge $15/month for Watch TCM with ads.
(Please put the ads between films)
$20/month without ads.
Max charges less that this, but TCM is worth it.
Consider turning off TCM as a linear service.
(Please do that slowly)
Okay, I'm finished for now.
Have a fine day!

Thanks for supplying the two new and recent links here, jimimac.

I both enjoyed (in an informative manner) and then at the same time started having impure thoughts about what I'd like to do to Mr. Zaslav, while I read them.

(...especially during reading the latter one written by Christian Blauvelt)

What The Heck Is Going On At Turner Classic Movies? (And What Happens Next?)
Story by Jeremy Smith • Yesterday 6:00 PM

Warner Bros. Discovery sent shockwaves crashing through the movie world yesterday when they carried out a decapitation strike against the leadership of Turner Classic Movies. For those inclined to believe WB Discovery CEO David Zaslav (a contingent that shrinks by the day), the announcement was especially startling given his appearance at April's TCM Classic Film Festival, where, alongside Steven Spielberg and Paul Thomas Anderson, he committed to the protection and restoration of his studio's massive movie library, and expressed a deep admiration for the cinephile-fave cable channel that holds this annual event.

I'll reserve judgement until Mr. Zaslav makes clear his intentions on the direction TCM will be going. That said, his past comments make it clear he's going to push streaming with every possible channel to maximize TCM viewership.

Yep, earlier today and as I was perusing this thread, the aforementioned Oliver Stone movie 'Wall Street' came flooding to mind.

I hadn't watched it since it first hits the screens and so to refresh my memory, I went to its Wiki page and read its plot.

And so the only things that seem any different to me between this movie and what seems to be happening with this whole TCM thing going on at the moment, is that instead of an airline's fate being disrupted by some cold-hearted corporate raider, it's an entertainment conglomerate in this case.

(...oh yeah, I almost forgot...and the OTHER difference here being that the pasty-faced doughboy Mr. Zavlav looks absolutely NOTHING like Michael Douglas!)

LOL
