Didn't Spielberg give a recent interview saying that they were going into production with Kubrick's Napoleon?

Really, I long thought a movie with NAPOLEON in the title would be one based on Kevin Brownlow's book about his search and effort to get all the footage of ABEL GANCE'S epic put together.

Just for the record: a glimpse of one of the greatest movies ever made.

(Although I think I prefer the Coppola score to the Carl Davis score, though they're both great.)

They're making it a TV miniseries.

Regarding his age, Joaquin Phoenix is almost 30 years too old for this part, yes. :)

Joaquin Phoenix was absolutely brilliant as the Abbé du Coulmier in Quills (2000), so he does have experience playing a Frenchman of that era.

Yeah?! So?! I mean, sometimes that sort'a thing can still work ya know, Lomm.

I mean, take the guy pointing the gun at us in your avatar here and consider the movie this represents, for instance...

Wasn't HE almost the same number of years "too old" for that role there too? And THAT didn't turn out too bad, right?!

(...yeah yeah, I know...that wasn't a historical movie...just couldn't resist pointing this out) ;)

He's not playing a 20-something at 50 though! The movie looks kind of good and I'll probably still see it.

Waterloo is powerful. TCM should try to program it.

TCM could also show the Gance Napoleon which it has shown, but not in the time I've been watching it.
