Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Is Going to Happen (2023 Bush Theatre)

Post by Swithin »

Samuel Barnett is one of my favorite British actors. I first saw him in the National Theatre's 2004 production of Alan Bennett's The History Boys. He later appeared in the film as well. His television work includes appearing as Renfield in seven episodes of the British television horror series Penny Dreadful.

A few weeks ago I went to see his one-man show at the Bush Theatre in London. The Bush, located in the London neighbourhood of Shepherd's Bush, is one of my favorite fringe theaters. The play, by Marcelo Dos Santos, is Feeling Afraid As If Something Terrible Is Going To Happen. Barnett plays a neurotic gay comedian, who talks for an hour about his life and relationships. It's hilarious, and moving. Here's a trailer, and a review:

Samuel Barnett, front row, right. A few of the other boys went on to major careers as well. The guy behind him is James Corden.
