Re: Fox "Vote Your Choice" for Blu-rays

I voted for these: Nightmare Alley Where the Sidewalk Ends The Last Wagon Warlock I voted two titles for the 1940's and two for the 1950's. I wonder if the second vote got registered? It said OK so it should be all right. Unfortunately I voted for Where the Sidewalk Ends in the 1940s section. Hopefu...

Fox Cinema Archives MOD

Hi! I've aquired and viewed these two Jean Peters films from the Fox MOD series: It Happens Every Spring (1949) B & W, dir. Lloyd Bacon Wait 'Til the Sun Shines, Nellie (1952) color, dir. Henry King The 1949 movie seems to have been made from an older master, but it's a sharp picture. It's very ...

Re: Home from the Hill (1960), part of Robert Mitchum Sign. Coll

Re my comment on faults in the aspect ratio:

I think it was the 4:3 computer screen or the program I used to watch the movie which squeeezed the picture a bit from the sides.
Watching it on my 40 inch 16:9 TV there was no problem.

"Man Without a Star" Western on Region 2 (UK) DVD

Hi! I'm chiming in to tell you about the new region 2 UK release of " Man Without a Star " (1955). I've previously bought this movie twice on DVD: 1. Asian (2004) release featuring horrible picture quality in 4:3 format. Dark and messy, bordering on unwatchable. 2. French (2007) release fr...

Re: The Warner Archive

By the way... I've read on the internet that the latest releases from the Archive are burnt to dual layer discs. This means that the file size is bigger and the picture quality is heightened. My post on Home Before Dark may indicate that. Here are the sizes of the Archive releases I've ripped to the...

Re: The Warner Archive

Thanks movieman ehh... Chris! I'm glad to bring good news to classic movie lovers like us. On another note: I'm planning on getting the spanish DVD release of The Pleasure Seekers (1964) featuring the lovely Ann-Margret + Pamela Tiffin and Carol Lynley. And: Stay away from the spanish release of Sta...

Re: The Warner Archive

Hi! I'm writing to report that the Remastered DVD-R of Home Before Dark (1958) is a beautiful anamorphic widescreen transfer at the size of 6,80 GB. Jean Simmons is terrific in her role. It's, surely, one of her best. Simmons was one of the greatest actresses to step in front of a movie camera anywa...

Re: Universal's Vault Series

When watching Kitten With a Whip on my computer, using VLC player, I could clearly see the interlacing.
Watching it on my TV / DVD player setup it's invisible.

What can this mean?

Re: Universal's Vault Series

Sorry for the late reply! I've watched Kitten With a Whip . The picture quality is marvellous for a single layered transfer. I've never seen the film look this good. My previous DVD of the movie was a DVD-R of the VHS tape. The sound went out of sync some way into the movie! No sync problems now. An...

Re: Universal's Vault Series

According to another forum " The Chalk Garden " is in interlaced 1.85:1 widescreen and is not anamorphic. Looks like most Vault titles are interlaced. But, so far only this widescreen title is reported as not anamorphic. I ordered " Kitten With a Whip " yesterday. It's, according...

Bandido 1956 (Stay away from this R2 release!)

I ordered a spanish, Sogemedia, region 2 release of Bandido . What a disappointment! The DVD cover says: "Idiomas: Castellano, Ingles". The 'Ingles' audio is nowhere to be found on the DVD! It's in a letterbox format too! That wouldn't bother me as much if only the original soundtrack was ...

Re: Leonard Maltin's CLASSIC MOVIE GUIDE

Hi! I bought his regular Signet edition 2006 Movie Guide . Much to my disappointment I discovered he had removed a lot of the classic titles from the book. I then read reviews of the books on amazon.com. I found that I'd have to buy the 2001 Movie & Video Guide to get the most complete edition r...

Way of a Gaucho (1952), Dir. Jacques Tourneur

Not sure if it's correct to mention it in this thread. It's not exactly a western... But, Way of a Gaucho starring Rory Calhoun, Gene Tierney, Hugh Marlowe and Richard Boone was recently released on region 2 DVD in Spain. (Spanish title Martín el Gaucho ). I've got it and the transfer is good, but a...

Re: "Wichita" (1955), Dir. Jacques Tourneur

Did someone say STARS IN MY CROWN? Yes ChiO let's say it: " STARS IN MY CROWN "! I'd like both Stars in My Crown and Great Day in the Morning on DVD, as I know many others do. On the DVD quality of Wichita : It's in the original Cinemascope aspect ratio (Widescreen 16:9, 2.55:1) and in co...

"Wichita" (1955), Dir. Jacques Tourneur

Hi! Has anyone here aquired the Warner Archives DVD release of Wichita ? I have. Wichita is now one of my favourite westerns. It's Tourneur 's only film in Cinemascope and the cinematography is beautiful. Some calls it a "B" western, but I'd argue that being in Cinemascope and looking fair...
