Re: They Had Great Character

Wonderful! Thanks for the links to the blogathon.

This is so exciting; I've always been interested in character actors, but have found few resources. :)

Classic Films for Non-Enthusiasts

I hope this is the right sub-forum to post this in! For the past year, I have been trying to host community movie showings, mostly classic films of course, in an attempt to get younger audiences interested. When making the fliers and sending out the invitations, I always describe the film to be show...

Re: Talk Like a Pirate Day!

Yarr, I must agree with pvitari on the best movie pirate! Captain Barbossa from Pirates of the Caribbean comes in second.

D'oh! I totally forgot to comment that Reggie Gardiner and David Niven are two other favorite actors of mine, both of whom are also in that larger photo! What a broadcast that must have been...

And that almost looks like Eric Blore between Anna Neagle and Vivien Leigh!

Re: *CANDIDS*

That's wonderful, moriafinnie! I'm so glad that you share these tidbits of information and photographs with us here. And of course I don't mind your enthusiasm; in fact, I think it's perfect! I can't tell you how excited I am to get the chance to discuss classic film without my audience falling asle...

Re: *CANDIDS*

Whoa, that was amazing, moriafinnie! :o I am astounded at how quickly you were able to discover the origin of the photo I posted AND dig up more photos! How do you do it?! (Why, though, is the biography of George Sanders titled "A Dreadful Man?" :( ) Thank you so much! That's quite an impr...

Re: *CANDIDS*

Thanks for the ID on Brian Aherne! Ah, that does look like Tom Conway or even George Sanders in the background, now that you mention it.

I wonder what that photo was from? A radio broadcast, you think? I can't imagine anything else that would feature this particular group of stars at once.

Re: Vintage Movie Magazines Online

Thanks for this resource! Just the other day, I was searching for pictures of old photoplay magazine covers for an art project, and wondering where I could actually read some of the articles.

Re: Hairstyles we love

Does anyone remember 'rats'? These were made out of nylon netting or something, and were hair colored, rolled pieces of fuzz your mom stuck under her hair to pouf it up in places. Although my mom never used one, we used to use them in theatre to create hairstyles that needed some oomph. Ah, I alway...

Re: *CANDIDS*

I hope it's ok if I post images here, too! :) Here is a photo I ran across today of some of my favorites: Leslie Howard, Ronald Colman, and Basil Rathbone. I believe that's Greer Garson and Vivien Leigh among them. I am not sure who the man in the center of the back row is. Anyone know? http://i47.t...

Oh! Thanks for the link, moriafinnie! Sorry I didn't see that topic before posting.
I would be thrilled if this film was eventually shown on TCM!

You are most welcome! I am glad you enjoy it as much as I do.

Here is another of my favorites, as I am a fan of both classic film and J.R.R Tolkien. The casting in this is pure perfection.

Re: July Star of the Month: Leslie Howard

Sorry for the double post. Getting back on the subject of Leslie Howard, I discovered today that a documentary has been made about him recently, which includes a lot of home movies that were thought to have been lost. Here is a news clip from the premiere: [youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9HR...

Another Cagney video I found. It's quite silly, but still amusing. Those cell phones always go off in the most inconvenient places!
