Re: Marc Platt

Thank you for the movie, Jezebel. That dance number at 8 minutes in is great; He makes it look so easy!
I'll have to find the full version of that documentary, too. :D

Re: YOU Tube'n

mrsl, I have read "Cagney by Cagney", written, of course, by James Cagney himself. It offers a lot of insights into the man's career, including his history as a dancer. If you can find this one at the library, I'd recommend it!

Re: YOU Tube'n

I don't usually like many fan-made music videos, but these two work particularly well with the music. Quite amusing!

My pleasure!

And yes, he is a pleasant fellow, indeed! It's wonderful that he was still participating in the theater in 2005. I wonder if he still is? I wish I could see one of his performances! :)

Re: Marc Platt

Thank you so much for sharing those pictures and clips, kingme! The last photo is lovely! I actually watched "Down to Earth" yesterday on youtube. There are lots of great numbers in that film, but that one you posted is quite a lot of fun. :) My personal favorite is "This Can't Be Leg...

Marc Platt

Ever since watching "Tonight and Every Night", and marveling at the dancing skill of Marc Platt, I have become rather interested in this star and his career. I've already watched 1.5 more of his films, and have been desperately searching Google for more information. (I am new to film resea...

Re: What are you reading?

Ah, my copy must be similar to the one you purchased, knitwit45! I found a rather old copy at a second hand store, and I have been unable to take it to work with me to read, for fear of the pages coming out. As it is, the cover sleeve is so worn that is barely stays on. D:

Re: Hairstyles we love

Did men really dress that nicely in the 1950's? Jackets and ties? Shirts with buttons? I actually remember the early 60's. It was a little more formal. But I don't remember a lot of sport coats. My dad wore a tie to the office. But you can bet that sucker came off the minute he got home! It seems d...

Re: Hairstyles we love

I'm glad you like the photo, kingme! I wish more women would wear the classic styles, too. This one is especially easy to pull off. I'd probably faint if I saw a young man all dressed up with fedora, wavy hair, and a nice suit with a vest or sweater on with it. I believe I would, too. :o Too bad tha...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Of course! How could I forget Adolph? Was there ever anyone you'd more like to see dead than Basil Rathbone in this movie? Hmmm, not many come to mind...But there is, perhaps, George Sanders's character in "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir" ? I adore that film and George Sanders, but his cha...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

I was cleaning out my movie cabinet the other day and ran across a VHS recording of "We're No Angels" (1955) that I used to love when I was quite young. I re-watched it last night, and remembered just how much I adore that film! Sure, it may not have the most believable plot, but it is cer...

Re: What are you reading?

Hmm, true. But one never knows until one reads them. ;) After reading a bit more of "Trivial Fond Records" today, I can now answer your previous question: Yes, many of the featured articles were published in Vanity Fair and the New Yorker magazines. After some searching, I found that many ...

Norfious, if you like Fred and Ginger and who doesn't? I sat down and watched them in order last year and devoted a thread to it which is here http://silverscreenoasis.com/oasis3/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=5545 When you get chance you might like to have a read through and add your own comments. No pre...

Re: Hairstyles we love

I love so many of the hairstyles from the 30's and 40's! I actually wear my hair like this: http://i46.tinypic.com/11l6kx1.jpg If I weren't so lazy, I'd definitely go for a more complicated style, like pin curls or something. Perhaps something like this: http://i48.tinypic.com/2mo1j03.jpg Men's hair...
