Re: Which Western has the most memorable score?

I love THE BIG COUNTRY theme, especially the scene where Charles Bickford rides out on his own to battle Burl Ives.
The music swells as Charlton Heston and the men start after him. Bickford doesn't turn round but smiles briefly.

Re: Gunfight at the O.K. Corral (1957)

Kirk Douglas and Jo Van Fleet steal every scene they are in. surely one of Kirk's best roles.
And I love the Frankie Laine catchy song.
Wish Rhonda Fleming had more to do in it.

Re: 3:10 To Yuma - 2007

I avoid remakes of my favorite westerns . I love the Glenn Ford/Van Heflin film and wouldn't see any point in viewing the remake.

Re: Females in Westerns

Westerns mostly concentrated on the male characters, but some actresses shone any way. I wasn't really aware of GAIL RUSSELL till I saw her in "Seven Men From Now." A quiet and lovely performer. MARIE WINDSOR impressed me in THE BOUNTY HUNTER,playing a strong character . ELLEN DREW didn't ...

Re: The Fastest Gun Alive (1956)

Another favorite western for me. Ford's character is so interesting. He can't stop practising with the gun though he knows it is such a point of conflict with his wife, Jeanne Crain. And finally ,he can't take it any more, hearing the men ,especially Allyn Joslyn, talk about a gunfight one of them w...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Back in the 70's ,I'll never forget standing at the stage door of the Albery Theatre in London, waiting to see Ingrid Bergman arrive for her afternoon matinee (I'm ashamed to say I cant recall the play). Anyway, I'll never forget that first sight of Ingrid,on her own, coming across towqrds the stage...

Re: Pick your desert island disks

I've always enjoyed this long running radio series. I see Dustin Hoffman is the guest next week - he's in England to publicise his new film. Picking just 8 discs is difficult, but here's mine - at the moment! I love Jane Froman's voice and would choose I'LL WALK ALONE - such deep, rich tones. Tex Rit...

I last saw THE KING STEPS OUT quite a few years ago,but remember it was a good part for Grace.the Bavarian setting was well done.

Re: Showboat 1936-1951, which is best.

It's been a while since this thread was active but I would just like to say how much I have enjoyed reading all the comments about SHOW BOAT which is probably my favorite musical on stage and in film. Because I love the history of the show and its Broadway origins, my favorite version is definitely ...

Re: My Passion Is The Great Movie Opera Singers of 1930-1940

I'm a big fan of Grace Moore and think Columbia did their best by her , costars like Cary Grant, Franchot Tone, Melvyn Douglas. Grace's acting ability was limited and her film career was never going to be long. But what a voice. And she had a bubbly screen persona that was charming. My favorite will...

Re: The Man That Got Away x Three

Wow, Moira. Thanks so much for that clip. What a brilliant idea to show all three takes.
The pink blouse is nice but it looks more like a rehearsal.
The brown is far too dull. I guess the final one is the best. that white collar stands out.
Amazing to think Judy did 23 takes.

Lee Remick sang on the 1980s FOLLIES IN CONCERT, in the part played by Alexis Smith on Broadway. She was very good.

Re: Follow the Fleet/Roberta - Fred & Ginger

Nice to be reminded which songs are in which films. I tend to prefer the uptempo numbers like "No Strings" which is so beautifully written - I love the lyrics - '..No strings,no connections, no ties to my affections ...' I agree Fred's piano playing should have been used more, as in the st...

Re: Old Time Radio on itunes

Discovering all the old radio shows on Archive.org has been magical. You can never run out of shows to listen to! I like Frank Lovejoy and have listened to about 50 episodes of his NIGHTBEAT. Who would have guessed that Jean Arthur did JEZEBEL on Screen Guild Theater, or Deanna Durbin played Teresa ...
