I checked in at TCM before coming here about 15 minutes ago, and had no problem at all. Can't imagine what is happening. I posted in Gen. Disc. to cinemalover because WILLKANE was getting pretty nasty to him about his cinema junkie thread. I personally love his thread. He has turned me on to a coupl...

Too bad you didn't have a photo of Helen Mirren in full regalia to run alongside of the real Her Majesty as opposed to the reel Her Majesty!

So many westerns are similar to others, it's always the good guy vs. the bad guy, and the story lines are the same. It's the same as any contemporary movie and re-makes. Consider James Stewart and Audie Murphy in the role of Destry. I have to go with cinemalover here, that Mr. Knotts is not the come...

How's everyone doing on TCM today? (Friday - noon). I was just on with no problemo - I even posted one short note on Hot Topics, I think it was. I don't know if it will help, but if you do get on - why not try putting it in your bookmark, or favorite options? I don't believe anyone of us has been ba...

ADJUNCT - Choosing our new name from among . . .

I started this thread because I'm still choosing one out of five. I'm going to write my thoughts, and re-read them a couple of times before making my final decision. Some others may also want to do this, and see other reasonings. In the first place, I don't think our name should have any affiliation...

I haven't been on most of the day, but I just ran over there and had no trouble getting on or signing in. I have TCM bookmarked so I just click on it and I'm there. Between the weather and some of the movies that have been on today, I've been mainly in front of the TV instead of here at the computer...

Jon: That's one thing that always got to me. I lived through the smoking era, saw my Dad, all my uncles, cousins, friends, doctors, and everyone else smoking both in public and private homes, yet in all those years, with all those people, I never saw a single one toss a cigarette down inside a build...

Miss Sadie Thompson and Rita

How sad that a part like this didn't come along to Rita earlier in her career. It may have changed the way people (men in general) looked at her. The lady had substance as an actress, but most of her roles never allowed her to show that. I've always avoided this movie because as I've stated, I've ne...

A day of Essentials

Today seems to be a day for repeating Essential movies starting with Mildred Pierce and continuing on all day. This is fine and a good 'catch up day' for those who haven't seen or recorded them previously, especially here around Chicago, for three days we've had sunshine, and short sleeve weather, t...

jdb1: The series with Clu Gulagher and Barry Sullivan was called The Tall Man - not my memory, it's imdB. I liked it too, and I was crazy about Clu. So many people have no idea who he is but his roster for roles played goes on and on. And you're right about his 'Steve McQueen' personna. He was happy...

Help: Need an answer ASAP

I got a surprising phone call from my son in California a few minutes ago. He watched National Velvet from the beginning (a rare thing for him to watch anything made previous to about 1980). Apparently he was channel surfing, saw Mickey Rooney's name in the opening credits and stayed for the duratio...

I like Roy because of Dale, his singing, and Trigger is a prettier horse. But I like Gene because Champion does more, and Gene seemed a little egotistical, but I prefer his sidekicks. The ones I really love are The 'Three Mesquiteers'. I love the intermingling of Old West and 20th century inventions...

FORT APACHE

I didn't want to put this in the 'favorite John Ford' topic beause it isn't really my favorite, but I did want to comment on it. First off, let me say there is something about the quadrille, or whatever it is in the beginning of the dance where they march around and increase the numbers with each li...

Need reply from moira, jon, and filmlover

Filmlover, it sounds like you prefer to go back to the TCM boards. Moira, and jon, is that the plan? Or will this board continue? I don't especially want to double post, but some of our topics here are the same as there, so to answer and have my response read, it is necessary to post in both places...
