Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Intro to OLIVER! -- Bill Sikes is described as "cantankerous"

Oh how amusingly "hip" and "clever"!

But I am calm, I am cool, I am breathing slowly in and out, lol.

Re: Noir Alley

I heard Eddie say in the intro to DARK PASSAGE that Bogart and Bacall were married in 1947 when the year was actually 1945. I hope this does not sound like nitpicking. It really annoys me that many of these hosts naively rely on the TCM research department to get their facts correct. It's just slopp...

Re: For Bronxgirl48: Mother's Day

Wonderful to hear, Holden, thank you.

Congrats in advance for your tenth anniversary. NYC is especially beautiful in October. I know you'll have another lovely experience.

Re: Coming up on TCM...

I kind of like the puppets in LILI but have never truly understood Leslie Caron's appeal (along of course with Mel).

Re: For Bronxgirl48: Mother's Day

A Music Box Godzilla marathon? I'd fly into The Windy City just for that!

Of course, MOMMIE DEAREST ("Don't f*ck with me, fellas! This isn't my first rodeo!") and THE BIRDCAGE ("Fosse! Fosse! Fosse!") aren't exactly chopped liver...

House Hunters and House Hunters International marathon.

Every episode: "I can picture us having coffee on the patio"

Even if they don't have one.

Re: I Just Watched...

And I'm not even any sort of rock-ribbed pull-yourselves-up-from-the-bootstraps type of person but that screenplay really pissed me off!

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Edward G. Robinson is wonderful in everything, even a Norwegian farmer in OUR VINES HAVE TENDER GRAPES. Apologies to Margaret O'Brien fans but I only tolerate her in every movie she's ever been in just to enjoy the other actors I do like. I always felt "Tootie" needed psychiatric help. (th...

Re: For Bronxgirl48: Mother's Day

I still miss Chicago.... Well, maybe not in the winter. Yes, except for the winters, Chicago is the best city in the US (in my opinion). Having lived there ten years I am inclined to agree! Friendlier and less expensive than my old New Yawk City hometown, although I must admit I also yearn for Da B...

Re: I Just Watched...

WE WHO ARE YOUNG: Pre-WWII Depression era social drama, not from Warner's in the mid-1930's with, say, John Garfield and Priscilla Lane but MGM in 1940 starring John Shelton (more animated as a ghost in Abbott & Costello THE TIME OF THEIR LIVES) and poised-for-stardom Lana Turner as his wife. We...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

"What if twenty or thirty million women started rationing lipstick?" "But I can't return my 127 tubes of rouge! The Health Department won't let me!" "But do we want to keep hoarding?" "Let's pool our resources -- that's democracy!" Uh-oh, lol. I remember Ging...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

I remember reading The Circus of Dr. Lao when I was a teenager. It's a fairly racy book (and a very short one), much more so than the movie. In parts it even gets a little Sinclair Lewisy. I haven't seen the movie in years. It's okay, especially some of the special effects, but nothing special. [/q...
