Re: Shadows of Russia Series: Wed. in Jan. 2010

It has been years since I've watched this film. I echo loudly the WOW factor of this over the top, delightfully decadent and crazy film. This was only enhanced by the sparkling print and just learning my TCM feed on Comcast is in HD (Thank you dear lord for this boon), it was glorious! Was Sam Jaffe...

Re: RUTH HARRIET LOUISE - MGM PHOTOGRAPHER 1925-30

She was a fabulous photographer and, among other things, took a series of portraits of the cast of Ben-Hur. She also took some wonderful shots of John Gilbert. Many of the portrait images you find or see are actually cropped down from full length shots. She favored full length portraiture. Her early...

Re: At Random

Thank you for your nice words, friends, but I know the generosity the boys show me is in part because I'm the one mother figure who doesn't lay guilt trips on them. It always surprises me how forthcoming they are in talking to me. Kinda cute, actually. And they appreciate it and you, how great. Con...

Re: Jennifer Jones

One of the best tributes I've read came on the day of her passing from one of my favorite film blogs, The Self Styled Siren http://selfstyledsiren.blogspot.com/2009/12/jennifer-jones-1919-2009.html . It's a lovely tribute. How I wish I could write nearly as well as the Siren. I love her blog. My fav...

You're so right Allison!

I hope this makes it onto the next Forbidden Hollywood set, or a Warner Archive release.

All I can hear in my head, looking at this photo, is something snide by Waldo Lydecker. :D

Re: The Bitter Tea of General Yen (1933)

You can see Forbidden in its entirety here on youtube. This is not available on DVD or VHS though it ought to be. I think that this may be one of the few films in which Adolphe Menjou was really touching and even human. Don't miss the last glimpse of Stanwyck fading into the crowd! In one of my sem...

Stay safe and warm and pray you have power!

I'm missing the snow, never got quite enough to suit me the 7 years I lived in VA. Bay Area weather, well, I have no room for complaints. :D

LIV ULLMANN is 71 today
I caught Liv Ullmann on Charlie Rose last week (with Cate Blanchett) and I have to say, she still looks incredible at 71.

Re: The Bitter Tea of General Yen (1933)

What-a-time for the DVD-R to go kaflooey. :-( The machine now screws things up in the finalization process. Oh well, next time, I've got a new machine in the closet. Oh, Donna, I'm so sorry that happened. Just in case you can't retrieve your recording at all, this movie is being aired again on TCM ...

Re: The Bitter Tea of General Yen (1933)

I recorded this last night and will probably watch it tonight. It's been a while since I've watched the film, but, I think you captured some of the magic of this Moira as you quote Walter Connolley's character and the look on Stanwyck's face. Nils Asther took on a difficult and non PC role and playe...
