Re: The Designers
Anne, do that, it will be so interesting to read what you've found out. I love Ginger's outfits, she loved lovely dancing to Let's Face the Music and dance, the intro I have to Follow The Fleet slows down the sequence to show Fred getting hit in the kisser by the beaded sleeve of her gown, he's suc...

Re: *CANDIDS*
Hi, Ironic that Natacha Rambova and Anthony Dexter should be born on the same day... I'm sure someone on this board will find that interesting!!! (Rudyfan??).... Larry Larry, yes, I just saw that! Another interesting happening on this day, Natacha's divorce from Valentino in 1926 was finalized, as ...

Re: Did Louis B Mayer really sabotage John Gilbert's career?
Alison, I have both. The new bio was published late 2009 and is an excellent read. Happy news for me, the author Mark Vieira has consented to do an interview for my podcast. I'm thrilled!

Re: Did Louis B Mayer really sabotage John Gilbert's career?
Eyman's book of Mayer certainly humanized Mayer for me. I still think he was a very flawed person, but who isn't? I have little doubt that Mayer was guilty of many things, including holding petty grudges and not above using his power to destroy. Gilbert had signed a very lucrative contract in the si...

I can't believe no one has mentioned Trouble in Paradise. But Jewel Robbery was also a fine film. You are right. I completely forgot it!!  I think that might be the most perfect film ever made. Wow, that's quite an endorsment. I've not seen it in decades, heading to Netflix now!

Ooh, count me in as a big fan of Mary Astor, too. Your YouTube tribute was great and made me want to watch Prisoner of Zenda, all over again. She's lovely in that small part.

Re: Kay Francis
Thanks Moira, I guess I did not scroll through enough postings to find the Scott O'Brien thread. I agree with you 100% on Confession, she's great in that, touching and Basil, as always, irresistable (and evil) he was so good being baddie. He brightens up many a film for me. I'm also really fond of S...

Kay Francis
Wow, unless I've missed it, I can't belive there is not a thread dedicated to one of my favorites, Kay Francis. Today, January 13th is Kay's birthday. I can't help it, she wore clothes like nobody else. Orry-Kelly's gowns fit her like a second skin and she exuded confidence and class (even when her ...

Re: Noir City - San Francisco
I was just looking at the lineup. I might take in a couple of them. I was only 3 when the Fox was destroyed, I still feel sad everytime I go past the hideous replacement of Fox Plaza. to see before and after photos, here is a link to the SF history Center collection of images, sad. http://sflib1.sfp...

Re: Comfort foods
Potato leek soup with a HUGE hunk of crusty sourdough bread (toasted and slathered with butter) or a bean soup, as Knitwit said, white bean and ham. A chicken pot pie on a really cold evening is wonderful. A baked pasta dish that I make with ricotta and spinach is also a big comfort food. A large po...
