Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Dear Wendy, Thank you for the warm welcome and insightful comments on my grandmother’s career. I wholeheartedly agree with all of your comments! The Last of Mrs. Cheyney is a fine film and does showcase my grandmother’s delicate balancing act between comedy and drama. The film is filled with balanci...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Dear Stephen, After a long day at the office, I am so pleased to be back at the Oasis tonight! Thank you for your questions and lovely thoughts about my grandmother. Even something as, well, just plain lousy as Trog, always brings a smile to my face. Whenever a Joan film comes on TCM or the local PB...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Hi Casey, It's Joe again. Does this portrait of your grandmother still exist? http://i592.photobucket.com/albums/tt8/MovieJoe/silver/joan-crawford-portrait-and-dachshunds-1936.jpg Thanks again Dear Joe, Great question! Sadly, and to my knowledge, the painting doesn't exist anymore. Joan had a terri...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Dear Marco, Thank you for the questions and thank you for the positive feedback! The work to get Letty back to commercial release will be interesting and long-term, but in the end, well worth it to get this wonderful film back from obscurity. As for the Home Movie Collection, I have had the opportun...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Good evening Brenda, Thank you for the questions and the warm welcome! My grandmother had many close friends, both male and female. In no order of strength of friendship or time period, this is a partial list: Helen Hayes, Myrna Loy, Barbara Stanwyck, Judy Garland (Aunt Judy to my mom!), Ann Blyth, ...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Dear ChiO, Thank you for the questions! Two of my favorite Joan movies as well. It is interesting that most of Joan’s later films were of the horror genre. Strait-Jacket, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, Berserk! of course her disappointing final film, Trog. Joan’s start in horror was 1927’s The Unk...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Hi Christy, It is my pleasure to be here and I look forward to being a long-term member of the SSO! I can’t express how much fun it was presenting my grandmother’s home movies to the TCM crowd. I could have spent hours talking with the fans. The turnout was exceptional, as Club TCM was standing room...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Hi Moira! The transition from silents to talkies was a groundbreaking, yet incredibly scary time for the studios and actors. The Hollywood Revue of 1929 proved that Joan had the voice for talkies. Metro then released Untamed that same year with Joan singing into the camera. Her voice was natural, me...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Thanks Fernando!
Restoring Letty and getting it back into public (and legal!) circulation will take some time and effort, but it will be well worth it in the end! Letty is lost treasure that should be available to all Joan fans and classic film fans like us.

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Hi Joe! Thanks for the questions and the welcome! My grandmother knew very well that she would not be a Hollywood star without fans like you. She tried her best (and she succeeded) in treating her fans with the utmost respect and corresponding with them, in some cases, for decades. Her habit of send...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Dear Theresa, Thank you for the warm welcome! I stated in the intro to this week's Q&A, I will present as an unvarnished look at my grandmother's life. That includes being honest about Bette Davis! In my opinion, Joan was an actress at her core. Of course, the trappings of being a Hollywood icon...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Hello Fernando! Please ask any and all questions! I wholeheartedly agree with your position regarding somewhat harsh criticism of my grandmother's acting. Grand Hotel, Mildred Pierce, A Woman's Face, both versions of Possessed, Daisy Kenyon, Humoresque, Sudden Fear, Strange Cargo . . . I could go on...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Hi Chris! It is a pleasure to be here! By all accounts, my grandmother enjoyed her time singing and dancing during her early years at Metro. Some of her (and my favorites) of the time include some silents and a few talkies including Our Dancing Daughters (1928), Our Modern Maidens (1929), Untamed (1...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Hi Paula, I am new to Silver Screen Oasis and I am sure this was discussed in depth, but I would like to hear more from you and other guests on the TCM Film Festival. Charlie Tabesh, the TCM crew and the festival organizers did a wonderful programming job, but like you, I had to make some serious ch...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Good morning Paula! Please call me Casey! Conrad Veidt is one of my favorites as well. His early work in such silents as The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari and The Man Who Laughs to his later films including Casablanca and Above Suspicion is uniformly excellent. My grandmother had the opportunity to work w...
