Re: Colonial Period Films?
Antenna TV is showing Devil's Disciple Saturday night. I'm looking forward to seeing it again after 55 years!

Re: Things which I learned today:
I was today exposed to an interesting concept: A zombie is a body with no soul. A ghost is a soul with no body. My fiance has become thoughtful. I suspect he is attempting to find an acceptable opening for a story about one person's ghost confronting their zombie. Where is Dr. F when you need him? ...

Re: *CANDIDS*
Laughton and Paul Gregory had formed a production team for the stage. Gregory got a copy of a soon-to-be published book, The Night of the Hunter (David Grubb), and showed it to Laughton , who liked it. Laughton had wanted to direct a film, so he Jackson got a distribution deal with United Artists. ...

Re: *CANDIDS*
Great picture of Director Laughton in action. Wish he'd done some more directing; the eerie Hunter certainly shows he had a flair for it.
Wonder if anyone knows how he came to direct that picture and/or why he never did another.

Re: WHAT FOREIGN FILMS HAVE YOU WATCHED LATELY?
Doing some digging in the Foreign Film Forum, I found Kingrat’s description of La Promesse and was intrigued enough to watch it. It was even better than I expected. My reaction reminded me a lot of my reaction to the French New Wave when it first started. Like those films, I couldn’t believe how the...

Re: HOT OFF PRESS!
Many thanks for reposting the fabulous shot of Billy very much "in character." I carefully check out Candids every day, but I missed it because it was at the bottom of a page, and I didn't realize a new page had been created. Will be more careful in the future; I surely would have hated mi...

The local PC Weekly ran an all comics issue. Pretty weird, but you might enjoy (and agree with) their “Movies” editorial:

Re: Yul Brynner
Thanks for all the tips, Moira. Nice to know his birthplace honored him so nicely, and unlike most celebrities, his costume and pose instantly identify the man, even from the back. I had no idea he was such a skilled photographer. His candid of Danny Kaye is particularly evocative of the kindness of...

Somehow the words "Clifton Webb" and "popsicle" don't seem to go together.

Re: Yul Brynner
I’ve already mentioned Eddie Shapiro’s new book, “Nothing Like a Dame,” about the leading ladies of Broadway. I just now finished reading the Patti Lupone interview, in which Yul gets mentioned. Hope you enjoy and appreciate this exchange. In answering a question about her reputation for making dema...

Guess Mary Shelley's one great mistake was in giving the name to the doctor instead of the creature.
Of course, then we would never have had Doctor Fronkensteen!

Re: Did anybody see the Tony Awards?
Really enjoyed this year's show. Much more entertainment and less talking than the Oscars. As usual, I recorded it, so that I could skip through the commercials and bring the total time down to a bearable limit. Yes, too many movies-into-shows for me. But that's because it means so many fewer shows-...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...
I missed SHADOW OF THE CAT. PBS is running classic movies on Saturday nights now. Opposite Svengoolie! What's a fan to do? Guess you could get one of those picture-in-picture TV sets and watch both at once! Think of the wonderful memories that would create: Citizen Kane ? Oh yes, is't that the one ...

Re: Yul Brynner
Thanks to Moira for starting this thread, and to all who have added suggestions for films to watch. I'm afraid my only very recent viewing was of The King and I , which I could easily watch continuously. I have vague memories of enjoying The Journey and clear memories of his wonderful performance in...
