Re: DEWEY'S RECORD PARTY!

Tim Tam & the Turn Ons was (were?) one of the truly sublime pleasures of growing up in Detroit in the mid-60s. As were the other incredible bands that emerged during that wildly improbable time. So let’s shift gears—so to speak—and rev up some of that great Motor City sound! MITCH RYDER & TH...

Re: Marlowe (1968)

I'm one of those people who feels that almost any film is worth checking out. However, in the case of MARLOWE , I can only say don't get your hopes up too high. It's based on Chandler's THE LITTLE SISTER , perhaps the only one of his novels that could described as comic. or at least satirical in nat...

Re: Noir Films

Kudos to ChiO for introducing THE SINISTER URGE into the conversation. It's really one of Wood's greatest films and is definitely worthy of further study. Good news then, that this coming spring for my next I WAKE UP DREAMING festival, THE SINISTER URGE will be in the lineup! Book those flights now!...

Re: NOT NECESSARILY NOIR II @ The Roxie Nov 4 - 8

I almost forgot to mention that part of last night's Ed Wood tribute included about 45 mnutes of rare Wood-related material including this bizarre 1955 interview with the great Bela Lugosi as he is about to be released from a Los Angeles sanitarium where he was being treated for drug addiction. Noti...

Re: NOT NECESSARILY NOIR II @ The Roxie Nov 4 - 8

Last night marked the conclusion of this year's NOT NECESSARILY NOIR fest and it really closed out on a fantastic high with our Ed Wood triple feature of JAIL BAIT, GLEN OR GLENDA and PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE . All three films looked wonderful up on the big screen and it really goes without saying th...

Re: NOT NECESSARILY NOIR II @ The Roxie Nov 4 - 8

ChiO sez: Spring request: THE SINISTER URGE and THE BRIDE AND THE BEAST.
Rumor has it that a restoration of BRIDE AND THE BEAST is in the offing!!
Red sed: David Steinberg said he liked GLEN OR GLENDA better than Tim Burton's ED WOOD!
Who wouldn't?

Re: NOT NECESSARILY NOIR II @ The Roxie Nov 4 - 8

Maven, the crowd for JOHNNY GUITAR was incredibly reverential. One of my favorite things about the Roxie is the level of coolness and savvy of the people who come here. I’ve seen JOHNNY G . on other big screens here in San Francisco and the results can be a little dispiriting with lots of back-talki...
