Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

The second evening of last month's cabaret convention in New York was a tribute to Doris Day. 2023 is the 100th anniversary of Doris' birth. Rex Reed was upset that there was no general recognition of this--no special events, no documentary, no TV show--so he hosted this second of three evenings at ...

Re: Noir Alley

I was surprised that Eddie Muller trashed STORM FEAR as much as he did. It's not even one of the weakest films he's presented recently on Noir Alley. SHOCKPROOF, for instance, wasn't nearly as good. He is certainly right that Horton Foote's script is problematic with too much 1950s family melodrama ...

I don't know what to say about Roddy McDowall.
Well, we could say this: despite what SON OF FURY wants us to believe, in no conceivable universe could he have grown up to be Tyrone Power.

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Yes, I am alive. I know I have been offline for a month, but its been a hard time on a personal level, and with no home internet, it has become hard for me to get out and about. I wish I could be online more, but at this time, it isn't easy to do. I'm really sorry about it. I miss you all and wish ...

Re: Gloria Grahame -Star of the Month, November

Don't miss Gloria Grahame in NOT AS A STRANGER, to be shown tomorrow. If this were shown back to back with THE COBWEB, it would be a double dose of Bad Movies We Love heaven. This movie takes itself very seriously. You, however, probably will not. Get ready for some strange casting (who can we cast ...

Re: Gay and Streaming

The use of the "Friends/Enemies" section--really just an "Ignore" function, the term I would prefer--eliminates certain posters from your view. I use it, and highly recommend it!

Re: Gay and Streaming

We had it on TCM, they have it in "the other place." I think it is a separate genre, and it represents a kid of "safe space" as well. If someone wants to propose a section for the other topics you mention, that's fine too. Even MovieChat.org has one, in its "Genre Zone"...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

I believe it would be more correct to say that Marilyn Monroe liked famous and powerful men. She was what today is sometimes called a star******. At one time she was married to the most famous American baseball player (Joe DiMaggio) while having affairs with the most famous Broadway director and alr...

Gay and Streaming

For those who are interested in gay-themed programing on TV, I thought it might be useful to start a thread specifically for that, rather than putting it under "I Just Watched." Straight viewers are certainly welcome to comment, but some would choose to opt out of topics like the one I'd l...

Re: I Just Watched...

DECISION BEFORE DAWN (1951) Can't believe I've never before watched this excellent WWII-themed film. Recorded it the other night off the Movies! channel (this way one can FF past all the commercials) and watched it last night. Richard Basehart gets top billing as an American Army officer who is ass...

Re: I Just Watched...

We have watched the first three episodes of UNCOUPLED and have enjoyed them. Since Darren Star is co-author and the show is set in New York, this is obviously intended to be a gay SEX AND THE CITY. Neil Patrick Harris discovers via text that his partner of 17 years (Tuc Watkins) has left him. Marcia...

Re: I Just Watched...

(i apologize because this is going to meander) One of my favorite FILMMAKING ANECDOTES ever (and one from which an invaluable lesson can be gleaned) involves a day DURING THE FILMING OF JAWS when SPIELBERG threw PETER BENCHLEY off the set because he decided that in the film's grand finale, the shar...

Re: I Just Watched...

I’m rusty, and I forgot how an offhand remark of mine can spark things. Lord truly forgive me. Lorna, I think it's been established that Leonard Maltin doesn't write all the reviews in his guides. Even he couldn't see or write about all those films. So even if we make snarky remarks about a dismiss...
