Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES
Do any of you think Erich Maria Remarque was inspired by the movie the Big Parade which came out four years before his book? Both movie and book have a scene where a soldier is stuck in a foxhole with a wounded/ dying enemy combatant and they learn to sympathize with enemy soldiers who are just as m...

Re: Ranking Only the Best (and the Very Worst) of a Movie Year Project
For 1932 *Hyppolit the Butler (It has a 1932 release date for US and rest of Europe. It is by far my favorite film of this year.) *Virgins of Bali *Kriss *The Mummy *Red Dust *Freaks My tastes tend more towards B movies and foreign fare as you may tell. I have also seen “I was Born But” by Ozu but I...

Re: What B&W films would you consider visually "beautiful"?
The Wind by Victor Sjostrom which I caught just today.
The later years of the silent era (25 -29) were some of the best cinematography around and I would maybe hesitate only a little to say the best years of cinematographic, visual beauty in all cinema. It really died overnight in 1929.

Hyppolit the Butler (1931)
This is such a cute romantic comedy- musical. Always puts me in a happy mood.

It is a comedy about social class in 30s Hungary. I highly recommend it if you like stuff like Lubitsch movies. It is light hearted and Lubitsch-Esque.

Okay, so this probably explains why the Circle was on yesterday. I didn’t notice if it were a restoration or anything.

Re: WHAT FOREIGN FILMS HAVE YOU WATCHED LATELY?
Nostos the Return- I have watched it several times in completion. Reading the Odyssey in conjunction with viewing it really helped decipher what was going on. It is one of the most beautiful films I ever watched and I can’t stop shilling it here. It is thematically like the literary adaptations of P...

Il ritorno, nostos (1989)
An Italian film available on YouTube. It is an adaptation of books 5 and 6 of the Odyssey of Homer. The ones with Calypso and Nausicaa. This explores a different aspect to the character on his voyage home. He struggles with ptsd from the Trojan war and is more into Calypso than in the book where he ...

thanks, LH noticed this bad sound sync also, but thought maybe it was DTV prob. Obviously no one @ TCM checks this stuff BEFORE airing  https://media.giphy.com/media/BLJy2x6QwzgdrCfAlD/giphy.gif I left the whole thing on in the background hoping it would fix itself somewhere down the line but...

Re: I Just Watched...
This morning on TCM, the audio to the Smartest Girl in Town was behind the movie by about half a minute. It’s sad because I was going to watch that. It might be an issue with all prints available of the film in which case they just shouldn’t have scheduled it if there aren’t any decent copies.

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES
Maybe after marrying Arthur Miller. His library would have made a significant addition to hers. But I've read that even before she had a fairly large collection of books. Whether that's true or just the old Hollywood p.r. I'm not sure. I'm still skeptical about Jayne Mansfield's sky high IQ. Her en...

Diamonds of the Night might be in the running for most boringest movie of all times award. Gives Chantal Akerman a run for her money.

At the other forum we haven't talked about ex-users for over 6 months, but in your case, we are going to make an exception. Can you link the thread you are talking about? I wanna read it. :D Sorry, but I was joking. At the other site we really don't talk about folks at this forum. Even the 2 users ...

In my opinion, what happens on that other forum should stay there. First, I don't answer to you. Second, mind your own business. Being permanently banned by your fearless leader over there is still my business. I would look at the site (maybe) but can't. According to the owners of the site (ProBoar...
