Re: TCM Premieres....

I feel the same way, Mr 6. I saw the plot synopsis to both on the tv and they sound like crass smut. I might catch them but doubt I will like them that much.

Modern interpretations of golden age songs/ movies

Even though I never got a long with the guy one of my favorite "Jarrod MacDonald" threads from the "old forum" was one where he had stuff like this - modern interpretations of older movies and songs from them. He had stuff like Putting on the Ritz in the thread but this is what I...

Cheeky (2000) next : A movie that, if a person instead, should walk around in a a barrel like Gigli (2003)??  next -based on a children's book Yeah, I didn’t want to seem rude by asking but I had no idea what “walking around in a barrel” entails unless he means it makes you spend all ...

Re: May 2024 Schedule Posted, Asian Stars featured

I'm getting tired of these group SOTMs or "trying to right past wrongs" SOTMs by focusing on a minority SOTM who was never really a star. There are so many stars waiting for a month that have NEVER been chosen and TCM seems to have no interest in showcasing them. Such as? It’s Joan Bennet...

Yeah, same. They are really getting the most out of that one “yellow face” documentary. They are probably obligated to air it a certain number of times.

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Do any of you think Erich Maria Remarque was inspired by the movie the Big Parade which came out four years before his book? Both movie and book have a scene where a soldier is stuck in a foxhole with a wounded/ dying enemy combatant and they learn to sympathize with enemy soldiers who are just as m...

It is by far my favorite film of this year.) *Virgins of Bali *Kriss *The Mummy *Red Dust *Freaks My tastes tend more towards B movies and foreign fare as you may tell. I have also seen “I was Born But” by Ozu but I...

Re: What B&W films would you consider visually "beautiful"?

The Wind by Victor Sjostrom which I caught just today.

The later years of the silent era (25 -29) were some of the best cinematography around and I would maybe hesitate only a little to say the best years of cinematographic, visual beauty in all cinema. It really died overnight in 1929.

Hyppolit the Butler (1931)

This is such a cute romantic comedy- musical. Always puts me in a happy mood.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=TBo0dWVf6SU

It is a comedy about social class in 30s Hungary. I highly recommend it if you like stuff like Lubitsch movies. It is light hearted and Lubitsch-Esque.

Okay, so this probably explains why the Circle was on yesterday. I didn’t notice if it were a restoration or anything.
