Re: I Just Watched...

Karen Black's moment in the sun was brief. FIVE EASY PIECES was a big hit, but when THE DAY OF THE LOCUST was a box office bomb, her career was done for. Which is a shame, because The Day of the Locust is one of the best films about Hollywood, and Karen Black gave an excellent performance. Among ma...

Re: I Just Watched...

There is actually wisdom in The Nanny , i.e. a combination of Jewish foibles and Jewish wisdom. Seinfeld and Enthusiasm are just shtick. In terms of Woody Allen, I love much of his work, particularly Radio Days, Manhattan, Annie Hall, A Rainy Day in New York, etc. I even like What's Up, Tiger Lily?...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

I saw the outro to GREY GARDENS last night while I was waiting for Noir Alley. Olivia Wilde, wearing a lovely green pantsuit, was the guest who had chosen it. She said all the things you might expect--no, it wasn't exploitative, the Maysles Brothers weren't manipulative, etc. That's not how I saw i...

I want to say Little Mary Sunshine, but that's a stage operetta that hasn't been filmed. So I'll say:

UPDATED WITH A FEW WINNERS. The Olivier Awards will be presented on Sunday, April 14, 2024. Here are categories in which I have choices. I have omitted categories in which I have not seen any productions. I don't think many of my choices will win, even though I think "How can James Norton not ...

An early contributor to this site, ChiO, said that he never argued about comedies because what people think is funny (or isn't) differs so much. He felt much more comfortable arguing about dramas. There are also regional differences, like Southerners (me, for one) who thought All in the Family was ...

So interesting. Everyone I know loved Seinfeld. Thought the show was hilarious. It's only on this site and our old TCM site that I've experienced negative comments about the show. I agree, the show had a lot of NY humor. The Dick Van Dyke Show was like that too. Yes, Jewish humor on both shows. If ...
