Re: May Criterion Channel line-up
Write-ups from Criterion's website..... Ones I've already seen in bold. 1999 It’s been twenty-five years since cinema bid the twentieth century farewell with an extraordinary batch of films. In retrospect, 1999 was a time of intriguing cross-pollinations between the studios and independents, nationa...

Edna May Oliver was rather earthy but worked quite well. Andy Devine was a curious pick.Fedya wrote: ↑April 30th, 2024, 5:59 pmWhat about Andy Devine and Edna May Oliver?CinemaInternational wrote: ↑April 29th, 2024, 4:12 pm
Truthfully, Shearer and Howard both give marvelous performances in the 1936 version.

My favorite line in the original THE TAKING OF PELHAM ONE TWO THREE, from Ben Stiller: "We had a bomb scare in the Bronx yesterday but it turned out to be a cantelope" PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE tomorrow! (Wednesday) Good line alright here Bronxie, but, and while I hate to be a stickler here...

I remember the Breathless remake being ok. Not great, but not awful (if you didn't compare it to the original) I don't remember that much about it. Think it was based in L.A. It was. I guess if a famous French film which had starred an American actress came to be remade, it was a nice, snappy idea ...

I am totally with you on AMERICAN BEAUTY. I didn't see it when it was in theaters, but when I did see it, I was like YUCK! I gave the movie a half star on Letterboxd. Good for you for giving it half a star on Letterboxd. I think I gave it 1 and a half, mostly because I did like Annette Bening's per...

It turns out the May schedule has Breathless , not Godard's first film which TCM has shown fairly frequently, but the 1983 remake starring Richard Gere. It also has Switching Channels , by common consent everybody's least favorite version of The Front Page . Might as well test that view. It seems a...

Re: TCM Premieres....
The 1983 remake of Breathless is the one where Richard Gere shows off the family jewels. That's all I remember about it! Bingo Long is one I'd like to see. Yes, that was unusual for a male star at the time. Still is. Yes, was going to say that I never saw the Breathless remake, but I remember heari...

Rewatched a large portion of Victor/Victoria last night. Still holds up very well, and it is one of Blake Edwards' finest hours. Robert Preston and Lesley Ann Warren should have won the supporting Oscars that year.

LOL. Della went far and beyond what a legal secretary would do. Seems she was available 24 hrs a day. She even put up some of Perry's client at her apt.!!!. She had no life beyond her job it seems (at least in tvland). Paul I could see. He was a private eye. I believe part of that was her hidden lo...

I dunno, does MERYL STREEP rock a WONDERBREAD-INSPIRED SWIMSUIT in SOPHIE'S CHOICE? Are there MARVELOUS ENORMOUS HATS??? I have not seen it, but I feel like the answer is "no." Honestly, I LOVE VICTOR/VICTORIA, but I think EVIL UNDER THE SUN has better costumes. We're simpatico on GANDHI ...
