Re: Theater

Late 1970's Los Angeles, I saw Ron Moody backstage in his underwear at a production of OLIVER. He wasn't very friendly. Bronxgirl, this is probably my favorite SSO post this week! I literally laughed out loud when I read it. "Reviewing The Situation" indeed . . . This reminds me of a pers...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Nice! Was that the old Tallulah Bankhead film? Whoops. My mistake. The film was called "My Past" not my sin, and it was with Bebe Daniels. I was pretty stunned by the distorted picture. LOL. Sounds like a similar type film. I have to confess that many of the pre-codes even though they wer...

TCM slipped up again this morning. My Sin was broadcast with the frame out of whack, so that the top of the image was at the bottom below the rest of the image. Nice! Was that the old Tallulah Bankhead film? Whoops. My mistake. The film was called "My Past" not my sin, and it was with Beb...

But he looks so much like one of my uncles that there's no fun in that for me!
I have to say that you bear quite a resemblance in the face to Mandy Patinkin in Yentl too.

Jacqueline Stewart is both easy on the eyes and ears. I also enjoy listening to Jacqueline Stewart She's a professor in the Cinema and Media Studies department at the University of Chicago. She's supposed to resume teaching in Winter Quarter 2024, I haven't seen too much of Jacqueline Stewart, but ...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

I have to confess that I've never truly understood VERTIGO, much less why it's been on Top Ten lists as one of the greatest American movies. I have less of a problem with Scottie than I do with dumb needy masochistic Judy, putty in the hands of controlling men to be sure. Everyone in this story is ...

Re: I Just Watched...

A note about a film recently seen: W.C. Fields and Me (1976) -- Middling saga of the life and times of the misanthropic comic (played very well by Rod Steiger) as seen from the vantage point of his long time mistress (Valerie Perrine). Steiger's performance is far and away the best reason to watch t...

Re: I Just Watched...

In the Cut (2003) was one of the biggest cinematic scandals of the early 2000s. There is a lot of nudity. It has some of Lorna's most hated film people all on one film (Mark Ruffalo, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Jane Campion ). no lies detected on JJL or Miss Campion, BUT...I was literally thinking the ot...

Re: I Just Watched...

Oregon has a brothel in it! Yesterday afternoon, Hallmark Mystery showed "Trouble In Eden." (Murder, She Wrote) In the dialog, a lady said she went down to Medford. I'm suspecting the town of Eden, Oregon is somewhere near Roseburg in the middle of the state. Once again, Jessica Fletcher ...

Re: May Criterion Channel line-up

No AMERICAN PIE ? No CRUEL INTENTIONS ? No SHE'S ALL THAT ??? Those are the movies that define 1999 cinematically, for me anyway. As a teenager in the 90s I used to watch She's All That and Cruel Intentions all the time. 10 Things I Hate about You was another great teen movie from 1999. I never rea...

Baxter to Cochran: "I have done many things in my life that shame me but YOU! You love to wallow in the MUD!" Strange but you're not the only mention I've seen about Baxter in the last 24 hours. I put up a poll on another website, and people were having the greatest time recalling her cam...
