Re: Noir Alley
I agree that Palance's suicide was totally unbelievable and didn't fit the story at all. Yep, as I especially can't imagine John Garfield in the original Broadway play doing the deed, either. I've always felt that Odets' great hatred of Hollywood overrode his desire to write a more believable finis...

And starring MISS SHELLEY WINTERS as Dixie Evans! Who came up with THAT billing? I was so unimpressed with the film, I forgot to check this thread! PU!!! It was static and as hammy as I (vaguely) remembered it! Hard to say who was the hammiest, Steiger or Palance. (At least Steiger wasn't in the wh...

And exactly the reason I've been saying for years now that I hope Eddie will eventually get around to featuring some Neo-Noir films as well. (...I'd love to hear what he could tell us about movies such as 'Chinatown' and 'L.A. Confidential', or lesser known ones such as 'Red Rock West' and 'The Las...

For some reason the eerie face-like shape on the tree up there reminded me of the following close-up of the wallpaper during an especially spooky scene that director Robert Wise put in his 1963 film 'The Haunting'... https://external-preview.redd.it/IPD03asaRrzVaXziPOdlXQBvyF30c8CMyAnxBYyXbsM.jpg?fo...

I always laugh at Beulah's prurient little speech to Dorothy about getting involved with a married man. "The quick clinches in the night....." https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vrNXE98qJik/XVEdc3tA0aI/AAAAAAAAKm8/nQfo31G0BcobU0XgU5F12nnlmHpTF5OmgCLcBGAs/s1600/frank-sinatra.gif "Clinches in ...

Re: I Just Watched...
As a Jew, I know I definitely related to Fran's "I just wanted to eat bacon" remark on THE NANNY. LOL Yeah, I can see this, Holden. I mean who DOESN'T like bacon, right?! Although in this, I would assume the word "shellfish" or "ham" might've worked almost as well, huh...

Re: I Just Watched...
There is actually wisdom in The Nanny , i.e. a combination of Jewish foibles and Jewish wisdom. Seinfeld and Enthusiasm are just shtick. In terms of Woody Allen, I love much of his work, particularly Radio Days, Manhattan, Annie Hall, A Rainy Day in New York, etc. I even like What's Up, Tiger Lily?...

I live in New England now, ( Fla too sometimes) but grew up in the Bronx and loved Designing Women, never missed an episode. Cybill. Murphy Brown and Designing Women were favorites at that time. I do think you're making a good point about regional comedy, although I like to think I can appreciate m...
