Re: OBITUARIES
Gina Lollobrigida pass yesterday. My favorite film she was in was her first major English language film, the John Huston farce, Beat the Devil. She played the Italian wife of Bogart and she had many very funny lines that she carried off in her sexy style. I like her foreign films more than her Ameri...

Re: Our New Moderator
:smiley_huh: Other than Lawrence, I am totally confused as to what your guys are posting about. I think that Thompson got confused and posted his comment related to Thunder Road in this forum instead of in Noir Alley . Seems like a good guess. Either Thompson's confused or trying to get attention b...

Re: Noir Alley
James. Thanks for your comments re: why it has noir elements. I watched, but did not hear Eddie explain why he thought it was noir. I think another noir element was that it was kind of "dark" in many settings, especially the night time driving scenes. Liked that Eddie explained that it wa...

Yes, I did. Thanks for posting that. When you mentioned her dancing my mind jumped to a different movie (don't know which one off hand, probably earlier) where she dances, not so disciplined as this one. In the other, she seemed to jump around haphazardly while wearing an unbecoming outfit. Perhaps...

Carroll Ballard's THE BLACK STALLION (1979), adapted from Walter Farley's novel, is scheduled to air at 8:00 PM Eastern tonight (January 15). Caleb Deschanel's cinematography s amazing! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGp9u56FJKs I like this film and it was good to see Mickey Rooney get this opport...

Re: Noir Alley
Moonshine, ah, let’s face the facts, nothing better than that. I’m confused as well about the noir aspect of this movie, but I’ll give it a go and let you know. El CID will be watching the cars. Luke and the local moonshiners are noir protagonist in that they are fairly decent individuals who find ...

Re: A Shriek in the Night (1933)
30s Ginger Rogers is a treat and she was in many fine films beyond just the ones with Astaire. I think she lost some of her spark after the 30s but that could be because WWII, generally.

The Library of Congress lists the Famous Players-Lasky Corporation as the Copyright Claimant for Valley of the Giants . I assume the corporation no longer exists. So was Lasky claimant for a time, and then the copyright expired? I assume that is the case. Copyrights aren't indefinite. Current expir...

Re: February 2023 Schedule Posted, Rita Moreno is SOTM
Well American actors are used for the supporting parts which are American roles. It was probably out of necessity that the main roles all went to French actors. Bill Kearns is the only actual American in a major role and it is immediately apparent he is phonetically speaking all of his lines. Even ...

Re: NOIR or NOT?
Johnny guitar didn't feel like a noir to me; its a technicolor Western after all. Like I said: "Johnny Guitar has some noir themes". For me, "noir" is more than just the visuals. Take Leave Her to Heaven; that is set in the west (Arizona desert). That film is in color. Would you...
