Re: I Just Watched...

I just watched Yellow Sky, a 1948, western by 20th Century Fox. The film features Gregory Peck, Ann Baxter and Richard Widmark. What surprised me was that Fox put 3 really "hot" actors into a western; Peck was nominated for The Keys of the Kingdom (45), The Yearling (46), and Gentleman's A...

Re: Hiya from Texas

I'm curious the reasoning why someone would say The Window is not a noir film. It has multiple noir themes. Yea, the plot centers around a child but that isn't an auto-disqualification in my book.

Re: Any James Best Fans ?

It's crazy but I first knew about him in Dukes of Hazzard and then Ode to Billy Joe before I found out he came out in Westerns way before that, who would have thought. Great actor indeed. Big fan of James Best. He was in a lot of westerns and sometimes he even played an Indian character. My favorit...

Re: Lawman (TV series)

I happened upon Lawman one night while watching MeTV + and I haven't stopped watching it since. I feel the acting, scripts and storylines are very worthy of my time. Most of all, I love the happy endings, I love that the good guys always win. That silver swatch of hair only adds to actor John Russe...

Re: September 2024 Schedule Posted, Lauren Bacall is SOTM

I'm glad that Confidential Agent (1945) will be shown, in the Bacall series. Katina Paxinou plays Mrs. Melendez, one of the great evil characters. SPOILER: Here she is just before she pushes Wanda Hendrix out of the window. She does get her comeuppance, though, and commits suicide (taking poison) a...

Re: Noir Alley

I don't recall anyone mentioning it was on Pier 13, but maybe I missed that. Day was only logical choice for the woman, but the title was a bit of a stretch. Well maybe no one did say Pier 13. Note that the title was changed: "the picture previewed in Los Angeles and San Francisco in 1949 unde...

This guy re-harmonized the chords so they would match her out-of-key singing!

Re: Coming up on TCM...

Forty Guns is fairly good (say, three stars out of five), but overrated, like many of Samuel Fuller's films. It tells you something about Stanwyck's career at this point that she doesn't get her name above the title. Fuller gets his name above the title, and although Stanwyck is billed above Barry ...

Re: Noir Alley

I could be wrong here, but I got the impression that "Pier 13" was where that amusement park was located that the hitman William Talman worked at, and that the "woman" was a reference to Laraine Day who went there to seek out Talman who Janis Carter had told her had killed her b...

Re: I Just Watched...

I enjoyed seeing noir favorites Virginia Field and Kent Smith in Perry Mason's "The Case of the Meddling Medium." There's also an ESP researcher named Dr. Andrija Puharich, played by the guy himself. However, the surprise was that Perry's pretty brunette client was played by Sonya Wilde. ...

Re: The Falcons on Saturday mornings

Last Conway movie, The Falcon's Adventure , is on this week. Not a bad one. Begins in NYC and ends up in Miami with a train trip. Key Largo is also on at 4:15 PM. Not a Falcon, but great movie. I enjoy The Falcon's Adventure. While lacking some of young up and coming actresses that were featured in...

Re: Coming up on TCM...

At 6:45 ET today, Them! is being shown. One of the better Sci-Fi movies of the 50's era. While James Whitmore and James Arness are the stars, I like Joan Weldon. She did a few things after this, including a turn on Perry Mason and then returned to singing. She was also featured in an ad for 1953 Pa...

This film is worth seeing for the performances of McGraw and Talman, two iconic noir actors.

Re: Roger Corman featured July 3, 10, 17

Milland certainly did a lot of weird movies during the latter part of his career but nothing tops THE THING WITH TWO HEADS, lol. I'm guessing money troubles prompted his acceptance of these roles. I'll watch this evening because what's the alternative? Hyperbolic insanity on all the cable "new...

Re: A Glimpse of Golden Age Hollywood

So I wonder how they decided who got the "Miss" title and who didn't? Looks like Crawford's yarn and knitting needles are sitting in her chair. Yea, some of the ones with 'miss' were married at the time (E.g. Fontaine to Brian Aherne). Crawford and Tone were divorced, thus and she was a '...
