Re: Films that made you cry

I seldom cry over sad endings. My tears seem to more easily flow while watching a hopeful or uplifting ending. Cases in point: 'The Best Years of Our Lives' (...during this one, there are at least five or six scenes in it that get me misty-eyed...probably why it's been my favorite all-time movie fo...

Re: Films that made you cry

Sorry I can't cue the song up for you: Confederate Railroad's "She Never Cried When Old Yeller Died." This is the song that also has the lyric "Listening to those Barry Manilow records was just one of her character flaws." Reminds me of a couple of lines in the now most likely s...

Re: I Just Watched...

Aww, guys. leave Shelley alone . . . I see you and I hear you. Shelley Winters achieved a lot in her life, and throughout it she had to endure a lot of really tacky and obnoxious jokes about her appearance that were completely uncalled for. In fact, I’ll even say that when she first hit the scene i...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

(in the vernacular of Nat from THE LOST WEEKEND): Did you polish all of them off by now? Oh yes, they're now just a sweet delicious memory. We have a bagel place here that sells chocolate chip cream cheese. Very tasty. I was going to skip One Touch of Venus , doesn't sound like my cup of tea, but a...

Re: I Just Watched...

Had no idea that Adrienne played that part on Broadway. From the recording, I bet she was pretty good. Not particularly a fan of the movie, but I did like the Live! version that was on TV a few years ago - particularly the performance of this song. She was Tony nominated for Grease . I think she fe...

Re: Films that made you cry

Re: Dumbo , it's probably the song that's sung over that scene as well - Baby Mine - that triggers the waterworks. No shame in that. I've read several accounts (probably from the same original source) that theatergoers were blubbering watching Snow White... upon its original premiere/release. Dumbo ...

Re: I Just Watched...

Hey, Lorna, I saw part of one of your favorite Murder, She Wrote episodes last night, Jessica Behind Bars with the women's prison riot. Remember when I thought on the old boards of a way to use that episode as part of a way to cap off the series in grand fashion? Actually, I hope you forgive me, bu...

Re: Theater

The entrance to the Savoy Theatre/Hotel, with its little cul-de-sac, was an asset for the outdoor work for Sunset . It's too bad they couldn't get the Shubert in NYC. Shubert Alley would have been useful for part of the street scene. https://static.prod.r53.tablethotels.com/media/hotels/slideshow_i...

I'm hoping the festival has some of these "retro" interstitials to show before screenings. Their recent ones kind of have the same vibe as the network bumpers (modern, bland).

"There's been a call. (What did I say?) They want to see me Right away!" I bought tickets today at the pre-sale for Jamie Lloyd's revival of SUNSET BLVD that's transferring from the West End to Broadway this fall. So the sweetie and I will be in New York in October! Our 10-year anniversar...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Yeah, I guess GC would qualify as a guilty pleasure for me....even if I don't really think of it as such....(that would be something like BELA LUGOSI MEETS A BROOKLYN GORILLA -- yes, it's a real movie) I've got DIVORCE AMERICAN STYLE on, mainly because I'm waiting for WHAT'S THE MATTER WITH HELEN? ...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

Yeah but Fedya, you have to remember here that FitzPatrick says this about (and how he pronouces it in that short) "Los ANGLE-less" in the year (and how for some reason he always denotes years) "nineteen hundred AND thirty-five", and all said in that (has always been hard for me...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

LOL. I'm reminded of the line from the Traveltalks short Around the World in California in which James FitzPatrick informs us how Los Angeles "has a population of several thousand Mexicans...." Yeah but Fedya, you have to remember here that FitzPatrick says this about (and how he pronouce...
