Re: I Just Watched...

Assorted notes.... Desperate Characters (1971) is a deeply melancholic film about bruised, unhappy lives in Brooklyn. It's a very bleak affair, with no relief from the gloom and likely stands as one of the grimmest Hollywood films I can recall seeing, but it is very astutely written both in charact...

Re: I Just Watched...

I watched the end of "My Fair Lady." The best part. Love Audrey Hepburn but Rex Harrison is such a jerk. After the movie was the hilarious promo for the WB tours. Someone may have watched the drag race scene from American Graffiti. Then a promo for Max. Is Max going to be the streaming ho...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

lol, I thought it was weird that the actor playing the NYC mayor was an Ed Koch look-a-like. He wouldn't become mayor until 1978. It should have been Abraham Beame in 1974. I realize they couldn't make fun of an actual real-life politician but as a born and bred New Yawker that definitely was Ed! I...

New OTA cartoon network

I've known this was in the works for months, but have not been able to discuss it. But today it was finally announced that MeTV will be starting a new cartoon network (MeTV Toons) in June. They will be showing classic cartoons, most of them from the theatrical release era, from major studios. They w...

Re: MUSINGS, PONDERINGS, RUMINATIONS AND FANCIES

TCM programming dept.: "Whose birthday should we celebrate for May 2nd?" -- "How about Theodore Bikel?" -- "Great!" LOL Bless their hearts. (but then they don't even schedule I BURY THE LIVING) You're now officially Southern, with that "Bless their hearts"...

Re: I Just Watched...

LOL! Hopper was good casting as Drake. I don't think he could've carried the show as Perry. I don't think it would've been the long running hit it became. Perry needed someone with gravitas. "Star Quality". Burr had it. Hopper was a good supporting actor. I never realized they ever showed...

Re: I Just Watched...

Yes, Raymond Burr's attention was directed elsewhere! LOL. This being a family show, they couldn't really show Della really coming on to Perry, but you get the impression she was available if he was willing........At least Della wasn't stuck being the receptionist. They had Gertie for that. Yeah, I...

Re: I Just Watched...

I believe part of that was her hidden love for Perry. She drops a few hints, but he doesn't, for the most part, take the bait. It was a pretty exciting life for a legal secretary, however unrealistic, and it seems she got a good paycheck. And reference is frequently made to Paul being quite the man...

Re: Noir Alley

And starring MISS SHELLEY WINTERS as Dixie Evans! Who came up with THAT billing? I was so unimpressed with the film, I forgot to check this thread! PU!!! It was static and as hammy as I (vaguely) remembered it! Hard to say who was the hammiest, Steiger or Palance. (At least Steiger wasn't in the wh...

Re: TCM Premieres....

Amour is fantastic film with Trintignant and Isabelle Huppert in a small role as the daughter.I do not know if TCM will be adventurous enough to show The Piano Teacher with Huppert again (she is the world's greatest film actress ) .I have seen severa of Haneke's films, they were all memorable Regar...

Re: I Just Watched...

I think I also looked for the soundtrack to EVIL UNDER THE SUN back in the 1980's- now that I know COLE PORTER'S work better, I MARVEL at what a MASTERWORK the score is, not only is it wonderfully composed and orchestrated seguing from one song into another like a long suite, it even cleverly inser...

Re: I Just Watched...

Especially in the later seasons when he had put on quit a few pounds. His weight really fluctuated during the series. I'd bet you anything RAYMOND BURR was depressed. If you only know hIM from PERRY MASON, it's WILD to come across some of his film roles in the 40's and 50's where he really got to D...
