Ask me how excited I am seeing Edward G. Robinson taking a bath in KEY LARGO.
I'm reminded of a comment I made about the early 30s movie Flesh: the problem with the movie is that we all want to see Karen Morley's flesh, but instead we only get Wallace Beery's flesh.

THE PRIZE (1963) Tongue-in-cheek, glossy, schlocky combo of NORTH BY NORTHWEST and GRAND HOTEL (listen to Leo G. Carroll's closing line). Can someone please explain Elke Sommer to me? Has she ever been good in anything? And is this or TORN CURTAIN Paul Newman's worst performance? Newman's about as ...

Wild Rovers (1971) Ryan O'Neal and William Holden play ranch hands on the Montana cattle ranch owned by Karl Malden. When O'Neal finds that even old guy Holden doesn't have much money saved up, he jokes that perhaps the only way for a cowhand to get the money to start his own spread is to rob a ban...

Miracle Mile (1989) Anthony Edwards visits the La Brea tarpits one day and meets Mare Winningham, spending the day with her and agreeing to meet late that night at an all-night diner. However, his alarm clock doesn't go off and he shows up late, calling her from a pay phone to try explain things. T...

Altered States (1980). Apparently, somebody gave Paddy Chayefsky an odd idea: write a darkly comic version of the third act of 2001: A Space Odyssey . William Hurt plays a college professor who as a student was interested in sensory deprivation tanks and what the experience is like. Years later as ...

UEFA Champions League Semifinal Second Leg: Real Madrid v. Bayern München (2024)

Sport often offers more real drama than anything a Hollywood movie can make. 8/10 if you're a neutral; 0/10 if you're a fan of the team I am.

Re: The Greatest Suicides on Film

As for suicide on film, I don't know that the scene itself is visually great or well-acted, but there's a suicide in The Big Heat that really drives the plot.

The least Palance could've done was off himself properly like a shot in the head. Instead he goes up to the bathroom and stabs himself leaving a bloody mess all over the bathroom with the water overflowing for others to clean up! NO CONSIDERATION! https://youtu.be/vbF_MEsULCY?si=mQ0fYmepVFLgKU2b&am...
