Re: Least and Most Favorite Movie of the week
Last week I saw four movies. Let's start with the two 1972 MGM musicals. Man of La Mancha is not the BOMB that Leonard Maltin described. But it is a rather bland and uninteresting musical. I don't know how much that is the result of the original musical, which only has one memorable number. O'Toole ...

Re: May 2024 Schedule Posted, Asian Stars featured
It turns out the May schedule has Breathless, not Godard's first film which TCM has shown fairly frequently, but the 1983 remake starring Richard Gere. It also has Switching Channels, by common consent everybody's least favorite version of The Front Page. Might as well test that view.

Such as?Hibi wrote: ↑April 26th, 2024, 8:55 am I'm getting tired of these group SOTMs or "trying to right past wrongs" SOTMs by focusing on a minority SOTM who was never really a star. There are so many stars waiting for a month that have NEVER been chosen and TCM seems to have no interest in showcasing them.

Re: Ranking Only the Best (and the Very Worst) of a Movie Year Project
I saw at least 61 movies from 1971. I liked more than 40% of them, at least enough to include them in a list: 1. The Sorrow and the Pity * 2. Death in Venice 3. McCabe and Mrs. Miller 4. Bananas 5. Two English Girls 6. King Lear 7. The Last Picture Show 8. A Clockwork Orange 9. Murmur of the Heart 1...

Re: Least and Most Favorite Movie of the week
Last week I saw six movies. Let's start with Indiscreet and Les Girls . Both are made by a first rate director (Stanley Donen and George Cukor). Both are amusing, but they both lack a certain weight. In the first, Cary Grant pretends to be married so the women he meets won't make too many demands on...

Re: Least and Most Favorite Movie of the week
A reminder that I rewatched The Heiress and was quite impressed with Miriam Hopkins' supporting role. I rewatched Marketa Lazarova today, and while I had already nominated the title character for best supporting actress of 1967, I now have a clear enough grasp of the movie to remember the other char...

Re: April 2024 Schedule Posted, Marlon Brando is SOTM
I know it doesn't have many fans, but it's a pity that as part of its Brando tribute TCM isn't showing A Countess from Hong Kong. It's hard to believe it would be the worst Brando film shown this month.
