Re: What's the best use of "Best song" in a movie

It's been years since I've seen The Paleface, so I don't remember the context in which "Buttons and Bows" plays. I suspect the effect is less than having people sing the song in a Liverpool pub as the one bright spot in their lives in Distant Voices, Still Lives.

Re: Least and Most Favorite Movie of the week

Last week I saw five movies. On the Silver Globe was probably the best, a strange Polish sci-fi movie, based on the novels the director's great uncle made seven decades earlier. Unhelpfully I nodded off at a key point that explained why the race of astronauts stranded on a distant planet (originally...

Re: SPOILERS!

Based on clue 3 I can immediately tell it’s an eastern bloc movie of some kind, probably Tarkovsky though I can’t immediately recall which. Andrei Rublev possibly? Andrei Rublev does not end with a crucifixion, nor do any of Tarkovsky's other movies. However... Clue #4: the movie was made and relea...

Clue #1: The movie ends with a crucifixion, but not in the Middle East, and not by Romans Clue #2: In this movie, as in its director's most famous movie, sanity and common sense are strikingly rare Clue #3: The movie began production, was stopped by the people funding it, and ultimately released a d...

Re: Your Favorite Performances from 1930 to the present

And if we had to include two of the Academy's choices? Picture: The Insider, The Sixth Sense Actor: Crowe, Spacey. I think Crowe would have the edge, given The Insider has more nominations than American Beauty Actress: No change S. Actor: Osment, no change S. Actress: Colette, Keener. No change

Re: Least and Most Favorite Movie of the week

Last week I saw six movies. Moon Zero Two is a Hammer film directed by Roy Ward Baker, the man who gave us A Night to Remember , one of my favorite films. This movie about space mining intrigues in 2021 is certainly not one of my favorites, and it wasn't Baker's either. Actually parodied by Mystery ...

Vera Lynn's "We'll Meet Again" in Dr. Strangelove is a stand-out for me.
Let's start with that.

What's the best use of "Best song" in a movie

Last week I saw An Officer and a Gentleman , with the oscar-winning song "Up Where we Belong" played over the end credits. This is such a common and annoying place to put your oscar-nominated song that I think the Academy eventually changed the rules. But this does leave the question, what...
