I've always thought that by the name Berry-Berry we are meant to remember that there is a disease called "beriberi."

Speaking of Perry Mason, we just saw The Case of the Provocative Protege, with noir gal Virginia Field in a prominent role.

Re: Noir Alley

I enjoyed seeing Ray Collins and Marjorie Rambeau, but BAD FOR EACH OTHER is in many ways just a remake of THE CITADEL, with the scene moved to Pennsylvania. The set design was very good, however. I don't have any great desire to see this again.

TCM is also showing a goodly number of fairly recent movies of all types these days, so going back to the 80's and before is compatible with their programming.
Go Tell the Spartans is very good, though not well-known.

1967 films seen-36. A very good year The Worst Hillbillies In A Haunted House Son Of Godzilla Camelot Reflections In A Golden Eye Jim, I'm trying to decide if Hillbillies in a Haunted House would make a better double feature with Camelot or Reflections in a Golden Eye. Lordy, is Klute responsible for all the girls being named Bree? I grew up in a completely Bree-less world. Jane Fonda's shag haircut also set a trend.

Blanche Fury is one of those English historical thrillers like The Man in Grey. Fury is the family's last name! I remember as being pretty good.

I notice that Blanche Fury is a premiere. I'll be glad to see that again. The salute to Constance Ford includes a number of enjoyable not-so-great movies, especially Claudette Inglish, where she plays a white trash mama going after her daughter's boyfriend, Claude Akins!

Re: Ranking Only the Best (and the Very Worst) of a Movie Year Project

1967 was a year with some famous movie lines: "What we have here is a failure to communicate."-- Cool Hand Luke "They call me MISTER Tibbs."-- In the Heat of the Night "I just want to say one word to you: plastics."-- The Graduate "Sparkle, Neely, sparkle!"-- ...

Re: Screen Presence

Great idea for a thread. Who do you look at in a scene? Who can carry a film? John Wayne certainly can. I am not the world's biggest fan of Tom Cruise, but he has screen presence and can carry a film. His ability to alternate commercial films with more artistically ambitious projects has created an ...

Did anyone else see Donkey Skin ( Peau d'ane ) (1970), shown last night as part of TCM's Art of Artifice series? It was an excellent choice, and a film I had never seen. Alicia Malone's introduction told us what we needed to know about the fairy tale by Charles Perrault. She has a lovely French acce...

Re: I Just Watched...

Speaking of the 1970s: consider the difference between Blow-Up (1966) and The Conversation (1974), which borrows liberally from the plot of Blow-Up , only with sound instead of photography. When Antonioni seems like the fun guy in the room, you know something is seriously out of whack. Swinging Lond...
