Alison, :) I wrote big reviews of both THE RED MILL , and THE BLACKBIRD earlier on this forum. If you want to read them, they are not at all hard to find. This version of THE BLACKBIRD has the foreign translations, beneath the English Title-cards since to my knowledge in has only been broadc...

Arkadin, :D I have a few more Evelyn Brent Silents, and find Her to be very underrated in the general shape of things. Brent typically was cast as a Sexy, Saucy, Flapper, or Vamp. I just added a score to a nice tinted print of LOVE 'EM AND LEAVE 'EM (1926), with Louise Brooks, and Lawrence Gray, a ...

Underworld (1927)
:) This famed Josef' Von Sternberg Silent was one of Paramount Pictures Major Hit's of 1927. Among the very first of the Big Gang-Land type Pictures, proceeding both WHILE THE CITY SLEEPS , with Lon Chaney , and Lewis Milestone's THE RACKET with Thomas Meighan, Louis Wolheim, and Marie Prevost , the...

Alison, :o I first saw Pola Negri in Rowland V. Lee's BARBED WIRE (1927), opposite Clive Brook, which is an amazing film! HOTEL IMPERIAL was released in January of 1927, so it is really a 1926 film. James Hall, who was so memorable as Joseph, in John Ford's Masterpiece FOUR SONS , the following yea...

Alison, :o The print I have is a washed out old 16 millimeter reduction copy. However, the news is most promising regarding this picture. It was just restored in 2006 by George Eastman House! Last year the new restoration was featured at the San Diego Silent Film Festival. The film is gritty and da...

Alison, :) I first saw CITY LIGHTS in 1978, in a live screening at the Cinema Art's Guild. I was 12 years old at the time An unforgettable experience certainly. Truly One of the greatest, greatest, movies ever made without question! Have you seen the version where Carl Davis recreates Chaplin's orig...

charliechaplinfan, :o Where did you get your copy of MANTRAP, and what does the print look like? If you got it from Prowlin' Films, their version is very poorly processed. And the scoring is rather generic Piano. :) I have the Sunrise Silents version, but a couple months ago, I replaced the synthes...

jdb1, :o Well, I am used to the Gaylord Carter score for WINGS, since it is the only one that I have ever heard with the film. I never saw the Thames version with the Carl Davis score, and it was never released on Laser-disc. I actually think about 5 or 6 melodies in the Carter score are very good....

knitwit45, :) Is your version of A WOMAN OF AFFAIRS, the Carl Davis scored one, or the Vintage William-Axt David Mendoza Metro-tone track version? I have both of them. The Vintage track print though, does have forign translations beneath the English title-cards though. :? It get's confusing because ...

 Unfortunately, the print of WINGS TCM ran last night looked like it had been run over with A Bakery Truck! Very soft and murky! At least the DVD extra Paramount released of De Mille's 1923 THE TEN COMMANDMENTS was all re-mastered, and looked beautiful, even if it had the same score as t...

THE CARDBOARD LOVER (1928)
:D Another hilarious Marion Davies feature to be sure! Wow, I would love to see a crisp, sharp restored print. The one on the recording that I acquired in A recent trade is chuck full of ugly looking Chemical decomposition. However, underneath all that, the picture is still fairly well defined. I re...

Alison, :) Regarding. THE GODLESS GIRL (1928) , I watched this one again yesterday too. Because a couple 3 friends had brought it up. I'm talking about the Photo-play Productions version with the fabulous Carl Davis score, which aired Twice on Film Four in Britain last April. :? Sadly, that is not t...
