Re: 2011 TCM Festival

:D Vince Giordano and The Nighthawks Orchestra performing live for Keaton's THE CAMERAMAN is as good as it gets. They are one of the finest groups in th world at this sort of thing. The Nighthawks score to SHERLOCK JUNIOR is excellent, and by all rights the film should be on DVD and Blu-ray with tha...

Re: London - Royal Festival Hall - The Gold Rush

 So did anyone attend this event? I'm anxious to know. Is there any news on what is forth-coming from Criterion? Hopefully, a version of the original 1925 release that does the film it's proper justice at long last.

Re: Buster Keaton

Wendy, No, I actually like THE GENERAL, I just don't hold it up to being any major cinematic creation as so many profess it to be. And far from Keaton's best work. It isn't funny, and is much more drama than comedy. In terms of how it relates to many other far lesser known, and arguably much more en...

Re: Buster Keaton

 Impossible to love Harold Lloyd's character??? That is beyond ridiculous! Just imagine what Annette Lloyd would have to say to you about this!!! Now If you had said impossible to love Langdon's character, I could buy that. I just can't get into him at all. I just find Harry odd and strange. ...

Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

:) I watched Tod Browning's THE MYSTIC (1925) with Aileen Pringle and Conway Tearle. This was a really enjoyable film. Some of the story seems to be missing, maybe a reel towards the middle, but it is still holds up alright. My first glimpse I believe of Miss Pringle who was coming off big hits with...

Scoring Three Rare Silent Films for Grapevine Video!

:D Very excited to announce that I am getting the opportunity to compile new musical scores for Rex Ingram's THE CONQUERING POWER (1921), with Rudolph Valentino and Alice Terry, as well as a few other rare Silent films for Jack Hardy's Grapevine Video. Including D. W. Griffith's THE GREATEST QUESTIO...

Re: Sunny Side Up on TCM...?

Kevin, :? I wish that TCM could have run the new Museum Of Modern Art restoration as screened at the TCM Classic Film Festival this past April. That is what allot of us more or less had expected to see premier, and it turned out to be the same tired old print as usual. I hope they will have the new ...

Re: London - Royal Festival Hall - The Gold Rush

 The Neil Brand stuff was a real downer if your used to the William Perry score. Hey Kevin. Where have you been anyway? Haven't heard from you in Months! Send me an E-mail if you will. Thanks. Look forward to hearing from you again.

Re: London - Royal Festival Hall - The Gold Rush

:? It sure would be wonderful if Criterion could release this version with Davis score, and an alternate of the William Perry score with orchestra. But due to the narrow minded thinking of the Chaplin Heir's it will most likely never happen. THE GOLD RUSH has yet to be done proper justice on DVD in ...

Re: C.B. DeMille Silents

Christine, :o I have a fine recording of a very nice print of THE LITTLE AMERICAN from George Eastman House that aired on AMC in 1996. Why this film has not been released by Milestone in a restored version I am not sure? They are releasing POOR LITTLE RICH GIRL, and THE HOODLUM soon, which both prem...

Re: Kevin Brownlow to receive honorary Oscar!

Christine, :) I thought that Kevin was very tactful here. Good speech overall, and stresses the pertinent facts. By the way, Who introduced him, and who were some of the other luminaries on hand? It seems that real progress has been made if the number of lost titles is now down to 73% I remember rea...

Re: Kevin Brownlow to receive honorary Oscar!

:D I sure would love to hear Mr. Browonlow's acceptance speech. He is a personal hero and champion to so many of us. Maybe it will be posted on Youtube or someplace by the Academy. Is there any indication what Kevin and Patrick Stanbury are working on now? Maybe the long promised collaboration with ...

Vally of the Giants Clip Posted On-Line

 Hey take a look at this. A brief 26 second clip from the legendary VALLEY OF THE GIANTS (1919) with Wallace Reid one of the 10 films exported from the Gosfilmofond Russian Archive last week has shown up on-line. The Print quality looks terrific. Quite the discovery. Here is the link. http://w...

Ed,

:( Size is not an issue. I have about 5 Avatars I could use, all are under the limit. They just won't upload.

Re: Is this a HOAX - or what ?!!!

Ed, Yes, but those where not 1928 films. Hey, I managed to change my Avatar to Colleen, but it won't work on other boards like Nitrateville? I wonder why? It's the same set up as here I thought? Disappointing. If there are no Colleen Moore titles among the 190 plus films yet to be exported f...
