Hi Joe, Another great and worthy performer to spotlight. You seem to have the same mindset as I in your choices as to who's who and who's deserving. I certainly don't have any qualms or reservations in the people you've picked so far. You may be interested to know that Nina Foch was a great friend o...

Hi, I like and watch all the CSI 's, except I'm not fussy about Miami since I've never been there and don't know the city like I do New York City and Las Vegas. Also, they can dump David Caruso anytime; what a drip..... I also like all the Law & Order 's... Also, I must have my daily dose of Cor...

Beverly Sills (1929 - 2007)

Hello,

Just heard on the news that Beverly Sills died in Manhattan on Monday, July 2nd.....

Such a lose to music and musical administration. She virtually ran Lincoln Center and was a singing force for 35 years beforehand.

R.I.P. Miss Sills...

Hi, James Spader was in "The Practice" as the same 'dispicably likeable' character. It took place in LA but he moved to Boston. Lara Flynn Boyle and Cameron Mannheim were also in it. It was very good and had excellent scripts, something TV doesn't have much of lately. "Boomtown" ...

Hi, It is one of the only intelligent and witty scripts on television. It's a continuation of "The Practice", which was quite good too. Many, many years ago when William Shatner first came to Hollywood and was a young and beautiful boy, he was passed around by several women, one of whom wa...

Hi Joe, Yes, "The African Queen" was an Oscar worthy performance. Hepburn's oddities matched those of the character's.... But, I always thought of it as Humphrey Bogart's movie and was so glad when he won. Another person who should have at least been nominated in 1940 was Gale Sondergaard ...

Joe,

Samuel Goldwyn was pretty well liked by most, as far as I know; and his wife, Frances, was a dream.
He may have been tyrannical in business and about his movies but was a real grand gentleman in real life.

He made the best movies of anyone, I think....

Hi Joe, Yes, I think you're right. "The Letter" was Bette Davis' best picture as far as I was concerned. She's not affected or mannered but plays the role of a liar and murderess with her eyes. Great performance! I've never seen "Kitty Foyle". I might some day, but I'm not much o...

Aldo Ray

Hi Joe, I'll bet Aldo Ray would be very pleased to be featured "In the Spotlight".. I always had the feeling that he tried so very hard and was just not appreciated the way he should be. The one movie alone, "The Marrying Kind" is so good and both Judy Holliday and Aldo Ray are s...

Maria Montez - "In the Spotlight"

Hi, Loved your article on Maria Montez on the TCM board. I saw Miss Montez once at a distance in the George V Hotel in Paris around November 1950. She was arriving in the lobby and my aunt Margarite and I were in the restaurant for lunch. People actually left their seats to stare at her; several blo...

Hi, I've travelled a lot over the past 60 years - - too much really and now, it's more a chore thatn a pleasure. Security, especially unnecessary security, makes it a pain. Places I have not been: Central & South America Caribbean Australia & New Zealand China - except for Hong Kong India In...

Hi, Continuing my list of nominees, who didn't win the Oscar in the 50's and 60's. Several people from the 30's & 40's list were again nominated but I've left them off this list. Louis Calhern Gloria Swanson Hope Emerson Eleanor Parker Thelma Ritter Montgomery Clift Arthur Kennedy Joan Blondell ...

Hi, The greatest travesty in Oscar history, in my opinion, is that Edward G. Robinson and Myrna Loy were not even nominated for anything in their long histories. Of course, both were given Honourary Oscars but practically on their death beds. How rude, for want of a better word. Actually, I think EG...

Hi, I think I've managed or mismanaged to eliminate Sara Allgood from my list. I know before posting that I realized I'd included Charles Bickford twice and so in deleting him once I think I deleted poor Sara too. I cannot risk the 'vengeance of Mongo' if he sees her name missing!!! And of course, s...

Hi Moira, Patricia Collinge is a great favourite of mine. She manages to steal scenes from Bette Davis in her movie debut!! Miss Collinge did a lot of TV work in the 50's (Climax & Studio One) and appeared several times for Mr. Hitchcock on his TV show. Interesting about her name and motherly at...
