Wow, Kyle I would love to see more of your covers as I'm sure most of us would. What programs do you use to make these? Would also like to see others creations too! Regarding the price, yes it can add up but it's worth the dollar or so cost for a nice cover for a treasured disc. One tip I have for e...

MAKING DVD SLEEVES FOR YOUR DVDS

Does anyone here make their own DVD sleeves for home recorded titles? That can be a fun hobby. Also does anyone know good sites to help make better sleeves - especially getting things like the spine name centered, etc. Maybe folks can start posting pictures of their own homemade DVD covers, that wou...

THE FLEET'S IN (1942)

Anybody else love this Paramount musical from 1942 which starred Dorothy Lamour and William Holden and introduced Betty Hutton to feature films. A really great song score much of it written by the director Victor Schwertizinger. Shockingly, there were no Best Song nominees from such gems as I Rememb...

CITY LIGHTS is a romantic film and (of course) a comedy but it certainly isn't a "romantic comedy". The female lead part is rather incidental. My personal top ten would probably be 1 - It Happened One Night 2 - Pride and Prejudice 3 - Midnight 4 - The Lady Eve 5 - The More The Merrier 6 - ...

I'm an American and I do remember Lena, she was about my age or maybe a little older. She had a rather strong publicity push for about six months or so, I remember seeing her on the TONIGHT SHOW which may have been the first time I ever saw that show (I remember Johnny looking at the album cover and...

Well she was also past 40 when she hit talkies and back then 40 was pretty old for a film leading lady, so many female leads at the time were barely 20. I have always been interested in Mae. I've only seen her in a few films (I've always wanted to see PEACOCK ALLEY, didn't she finance that one herse...

It is enormous, I bought a copy of it used on Half.com years ago and it was shocked at it's size. It's like three times the size of the sequel MORE FABULOUS FACES and that book had five stars instead of four. The author's clear favorite (mine too) is Gloria Swanson, there are more pages on her than ...

Hi Scott, I haven't yet read your book but I'm looking forward to getting it. Kay Francis seems to have most disputed date of birth (actually year of birth) of any movie star. I've seen anywhere from 1897 to 1905 listed. What was the year and can you tell us how you determined it? I love Kay in IN N...

Did this air on TCM? I must have missed it thinking it was the remake. I am a super duper Penny Singleton fan - she's a terrific comedienne AND a musical performer but she got locked into those (often excellent) Blondie comedies and never got a chance after that to break into actual musicals. The sh...

Mr. Brownlow do you know if the great stage star Mrs. Fiske's two silent films survive anywhere, VANITY FAIR and TESS OF D'URBERVILLES? I believe I read somewhere that D. W. Griffith praised her filmed performances but while Mrs. Fiske was a fan of movies (she wrote an excellent piece on Chaplin aro...

Mr. Brownlow, I was happy to see Owen Moore and Jack Pickford among your favorites - I think both of them are often unfairly dismissed by many Mary Pickford biographers. Mary is my alltime favorite silent star and I couldn't tell you how many times I've pulled your MARY PICKFORD REDISCOVERED book of...

THREE CAME HOME is apparently a public domain film as there have been many companies that have released lowcost VHS and DVD editions of the film for many years.

It's one of Claudette's best dramatic performances and one of the most underrated films of 1950.
