Re: Sailor walks into a bar . . .

How I learned to mind my own business: I was walking past the mental hospital the other day and all the patients were shouting, "13... 13... 13." The fence was too high to see over, but I saw a little gap in the planks. So I looked through to see what was going on. Somebody poked me in the...

Re: Sailor walks into a bar . . .

Yesterday I had a flat tire on the interstate. So I eased my car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully get out of the car and open the trunk. I took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic. They look so life like you wouldn't believe it! ...

Also noticed this earlier in the week: Paul Burke (83) actor twice nominated for an Emmy for his role as Detective Adam Flint in the gritty crime hit Naked City (1960-63). Burke was in dozens of TV shows in his 40-year career, including prominent parts on the World War II series 12 O’Clock High and ...

Hollywood Squares: If you remember the Original Hollywood Squares and its comics, this may bring a tear to your eyes. These great questions and answers are from the days when ' Hollywood Squares' game show responses were spontaneous, not scripted, as they are now. Peter Marshall was the host asking ...

Re: new

I'll be out of internet range for the rest of the weekend, so if anyone else would like to jump in, feel free. If it's still open when I get back, I'll try to come up with something interesting, yet slightly challenging.

Re: Cash for Appliances

"Cash for Empties" was a private corporate run program that put many a nickle in the pocket of the boys of the '50s, if memory serves me correctly.

Re: Cash for Appliances

Being the only one on this board who actually works for an appliance manufacturer (I assume), I say, "Buy, buy, buy!" This will be job security for me... although my employee discount will make the program moot for me. I just wonder if the rebates will be taxable as income like the Cash fo...

I'd like to add my kudos to Joe for his efforts here. I try to view his photos every night before shutting down the computer. Seeing all of the famous faces in everyday settings if quite illuminating. Gosh, some of them are almost like real people!

Re: What are you reading?

I really didn't have any problem with the change in time setting in the stories on film. I think that most people have trouble reconciling Rathbone's movie bad guy image from films like The Adventures of Robin Hood and The Mark of Zorro with the squeaky clean image of Sherlock Holmes. The book versi...

Re: The Forum for Questions for Charlie Tabesh

As one CharlieT to another, thanks for taking the time to visit and answer everyone's questions. I was also hoping for a Fox Jeanne Crain movie - Home In Indiana - since the final racing scenes were filmed in my hometown. Any chance? Also, after attending my high school class reunion this past weeke...

Re: General announcement to the SSO membership

Nancy, the remote is on the way. Please look under the third cushion on your sofa... or in the freezer. I'm not too good at this high tech fancy-schmancy instant communication fol-de-rol. And, Chris, laughter IS the best medicine. Our bill is in the mail (sorry, we don't take insurance). :tw...

Re: General announcement to the SSO membership

Never mind the 98 cents. I was looking in the sofa for my remote and found $1.37 (all in ones) so I'm flush for a while. Yeah, Ricky was just a grade school heartthrob back when he issued his life's mission statement.

Redneck Fisherman A redneck was stopped by a game warden, down in Alabama, with two ice chests full of fish. He was leavin' a cove well-known for its fishing. The game warden asked the man, 'Do you have a license to catch those fish?' 'Naw, sir', replied the redneck. 'I ain't got none of them there ...
