Noticed today watching all those Robert Montgomery films--Norma Shearer had a habit (at least in her Divorcee phase) of putting one hand on her hip and crossing her other arm across her stomach and resting her hand on the hand on her hip. Deitrich, especially in her von Sternberg films, would flick ...

I always liked Lucille Ball in her pre-Lucy days. My favorite movies of hers are "Stage Door," "Five Came Back," "The Big Street," "Without Love" (she and Keenen Wynn stole that movie out from under its two stars) and "Lured."

Maybe she didn't want it as much? As Doris Day, I mean. I remember something I read once, about the recordings she did with Marlene Dietrich in the 50's (which, weird as the paring sounds, actually work). She apparently would show up to do the recordings looking like a normal human being instead of ...

Watched the Robert Montgomery birthday line-up yesterday and was disappointed in "Strangers May Kiss." Well, the ending anyway. Talk about a double standard! It was ok for the reporter to be married and still sleep with Shearer (and who knows how many others) but when she turned the tables...

I've only ever been able to get through that first 'musical' number hold and touch or whatever it is, and I change the channel. I have clicked back a couple of times but always land on that Hitler in springtime thing and after gagging, I finally get the channel changed again. It is one of the sicke...

I liked Black's performance in King Kong too--he played con artist very well. I think he has a bit of Cagney about him ::ducks:: Seriously.

I finally got around to watching this movie a few days ago and I too wish that it had spawned a series. I loved the way they kept shuffling that poor guy's body all over the train! Reminded me of "The Trouble with Harry." Funny lines, funny faces and an interesting plot. It was amazing how...

Overall favorite has to M*A*S*H*. You just can'teat it. It was funny from beginning to end and you could really care about the characters. I was in highschool when it ended and I remember spending my 1st period English class discussing the last episode. Most fun I've ever had in English class. More ...

I saw Atonement . Beautiful film. I read the novel a few years ago, and the adaptation is very faithful. There is a long tracking shot in the World War II section of the film depicting the British troops waiting on the beach at Dunkirk that is breathtaking. It really made me FEEL like I was there, ...

Watched "La Vie en Rose" the other day. I was looking forward to it, because I do like Piaf's music. I'm not sure I liked it. It wasn't the acting--Cotillard is amazing. It was more the way it was structured--it jumped around her life in a way I found confusing, and I guess the writers jus...

I watched the very fine action-adventure yarn " Seven Sinners " (1941) with Marlene Dietrich as an alluring, tempestuous and extremely notorious "entertainer" (Bijou) in the Indonesian islands. Marlene gets to wear some gorgeous clothes (Irene creations) and jewels, very implaus...

Seriously, I've never discussed orgasms or my sex life with my mom. Shudder. Call me old-fashioned, but those are not topics that I want to come up when shoe shopping with my mother and sisters. Really. You know it's funny--I've never discussed sex with my Mom either (after the initial birds and be...

If we can use modern movies from Britain, I can name a couple that are faves of mine: "Waking Ned Devine" and "The Full Monty." Hilarious, once you get used to the accents. Also, it's interesting how a lot of shows that started on the BBC now have American versions, like "Wh...
