Re: WHAT SILENTS & PRE-CODES HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

A new one to me Union Depot, 1931 with Douglas Fairbanks, Jr., Joan Blondell, Alan Hale, Guy Kibbee, Frank McHugh. Doug's charming hobo smile, the violin case full of money, and Joan's innocent show-girl make for a great story. This pre-code was a lot of fun.

CONGRATS on a fun filled weekend. So glad you got to go and thanks for telling us all about it. I think Doug on the big screen sounds like the highlight of the weekend.

Re: The whiny thread

Serious health problems have come to light in my household. I don't want to go into it but please remember us. I would take my broken wrist back any day.

Re: Gone With or Without fanfare

Ah, sad, two icons of Old and Older Hollywood gone.
Gloria Stuart was indeed lovely and what an interesting story, how she went from actress to artisan. She seems like such an interesting and and well-rounded person. And Tony Curtis and his charming smile will be mourned by many.

Re: Meet Me In St. Louis

I love "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" as well. It is impeccable. Judy's voice, her looks, the lyrics, the music, the scene. I got the Prozac reference immediately; I have to have a kleenez box at hand when it starts. As soon as she winds up that music box, I'm a goner. The kids a...

Re: For those who love musicals and dancers

Very cute - isn't that cute how the moves are so synchronized. (I mean, I realize they chose songs with the exact same beat so they would fit to the song, but it's pretty tight.) I swear Mary Poppins said, "Footloose." I thought it was perfect that it ended on Gene Kelly (I never could sta...

Re: TCM -- Anti-copying Code?

Talkietime- thanks for the response. Terminal certainly sounds like the diagnosis I had guessed at. And given the price of machines, I will probably ask Santa for one for Christmas. (I have another one downstairs so am not completely without.) Isn't it sad that it's cheaper to throw something in the...

Re: Meet Me In St. Louis

THis is one of my favorite movies so I'm just loving this. (My cat is named after Margaret O'Brien, sad but true.) I just love looking at all the details of the stills, especially the rooms. I am fascinated by high Victorian style, although I wouldn't want to dust it. Thanks for posting all these, I...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Mike,
I have a feeling the movie The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is not for me. The book trilogy sure has been in demand at work and I would like to read them just to stay 'cool' but my friend/reviewer didn't think I'd like it. Glad to hear the movie got a good treatment, though.

Re: Thelma Todd SUTS Day?

Gary - I really enjoyed your write-up about Thelma Todd. I had read her biography earlier this year but had only seen her in a couple of movies. I have watched the shorts I received and laughed out loud alone in my house! I'm looking forward to watching the features. She was a fabulous gal whose car...

I looked up the games online, curious to know what you were up to! It looks like quite an event and you must be exhausted - did you take the rest of the week off to recup? I'm happy for you that you to got to go celebrate heritage with your clansmen. B

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Chio - Shadow of a Doubt (What do you call it? A viewing? A showing? They both sound like funerals.) and its lecture sound very interesting. I have be careful when I say I like noir, because I do and I don't. I guess that applies to all of us as individuals and to each genre. I love musicals, but ca...

Re: Welcome to the Q & A with Casey LaLonde

Casey, I don't think I saw this mentioned anywhere; I was wondering if you knew which were Ms. Crawford's favorite costumers/designers? With that figure, she could wear anything but 30s styles are my favorites and I liked her in a slinky evening gown. With thanks if you can get back on this one; und...
