Re: TCM October Schedule Now Available

You can see the TCM October, 2008 schedule at the following link: http://www.tcm.com/schedule/month/?cid=&oid=10/1/2008 It looks as though Carole Lombard is the Star of the Month on Mondays, with many rarely broadcast films featuring her included. Wonderful news. But what the heck is it ever go...

Again, forgiving the lateness: 1. Bette Davis (The Letter, The Little Foxes, Marked Woman, Now Voyager, What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, All About Eve, The Old Maid, Dark Victory, Jezebel, The Nanny, All This and Heaven Too, Mr. Skeffington, Old Acquaintance, Of Human Bondage) 2. Katharine Hepburn (...

If you'll forgive the lateness, here are mine...(along with some favorite films) 1. Cary Grant (Bringing Up Baby, North by Northwest, His Girl Friday, Notorious, Only Angels Have Wings, The Awful Truth, I Was a Male War Bride, Monkey Business ['52], Charade) 2. I'm with you there, Moira (and THE RECKLESS MOMENT ). Not to whine, but along those lines, Criterion is also releasing A SMALL BACK ROOM . So...where's *&%^*&$ A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH ? On R2. There's been an awesome Max Ophuls collection available in Britain for years - and that set inc...

Stephen: For the record (scratched though it may be), James Landis directed THE SADIST . [...] Ray Dennis Steckler 's supreme achieve with Arch is WILD GUITAR . Thank you...I had gotten the films mixed up (as you could tell). As for Metzger , if you haven't seen THERESA AND ISABELLE , you should. D...

I was shocked that Nosferatu received so few votes. IMO, it's still the best vampire movie (though admittedly I'm not a big fan of vampire films - once you get past the requisite scene of any given vampire baring his fangs and biting a neck, it's all over).

A word of warning: If you're interested in giallo films (i.e., Italian horror pictures), by all means, DON'T view the trailers before watching the films! Many give away the best scenes and spoil endings yet still don't give any real clue as to what said film is about. I haven't seen Bird 's trailer,...

I saw Kino's edition of the German film Different From the Others with Conrad Veidt the other night. Almost made me pass out to read the actors spouting opinions about homosexuality that ironically sounded more tolerant than you're likely to hear from many in our contemporary society. Only pieces of...

As I mentioned a few posts back, I find some Doris Wishman and Joe Sarno movies to be fascinating. What about Larry Cohen ( GOD TOLD ME TO , Q: THE WINGED SERPENT and, although he only wrote it, PHONE BOOTH )? Those are some of my favorite urban paranoia, with religious (or anti-religious) underton...

I generally don't watch films about high school or college because high school and college (even my Master's years) were hell for me. Pure and simple. And for the record, let me just say here and now that The Breakfast Club was in no conceivable way, shape, or form a balm to those who found the adol...

Faster Pussycat! Kill, Kill! From all I can tell, this one gets more and more respect from film historians and critics as the years go on. I think it's undeniably Russ Meyer's best, most accessible and most popular film, and probably the one that feminists would find the least offensive. I almost f...

Oh, I just hate reading lists like these. They always remind me of all that I still have yet to see. I refrained from posting my "personal best" list because I think virtually every director and film that I would list as a favorite has already been given a mention. Other than Ed Wood, howe...

Samson and Delilah is a great addition, Moira, and one that I wish I'd included. DeMille reportedly wanted to cast Patrick Warburton prototype Steve Reeves as Samson, and considering the excess for which DeMille's films are renowned (especially his hypersexual biblical epics), Reeves seems an ideal...
