help restore SEPTEMBER STORM (1960) and SEA DREAM (1978)

http://i1035.photobucket.com/albums/a432/Richard--W/September%20Storm%203D%201960_zpsij69rpcg.jpg September Storm was really the last major two-strip 3-D release, and the only one to employ anamorphic optics for a 2.35:1 screen ratio. This historically important and entertaining 3-D film from 1960 ...

Re: The Searchers

I watched The Searchers again for the first time in about three years. Watched the old DVD with the correct color, the only way to see it. Over a decade has passed since I read the novel on which the film is based. Ford's comedy bothers me more than it used to. The Searchers tells its story in start...

Re: Bond, James Bond

Forgive me for posting a sour note, but after watching SPECTRE and being reminded of the three entries that led up to it, I feel strongly about this. Daniel Craig has crapped on James Bond long enough. He and his twisted producers have deconstructed and degraded James Bond out of existence. It's a d...

WTB: Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid VERSIONS

I'm writing an essay on PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID (MGM, 1973) for publication and need to study the alternative versions that are not released on DVD. I'm looking for the 106-minute, 1973 theatrical release in widescreen. Widescreen only. Also need the network TV version 1979-1988, heavily censo...

Re: Westerns

They're pretty good, aren't they. Thank you for that musical interlude. After reading "Stormy Weather" 's appreciation of the novel True Grit over at West of the River we watched the new version with Jeff Bridges last night. Why do I do this to myself? I'm reminded once again of what a dis...

Re: 1930s most under-rated westerns

Initial post revised. I'm just beginning to discover the westerns produced by Universal Studio in the 1930s. Today, Universal is best remembered for their monster movies in the 1930s, but during the 1930s they were best known for their well-produced westerns starring, among others, Tom Mix and Ken M...

Warner Home Video released the made-for-tv movie THE McCAHANS (1977) and the first mini-series HOW THE WEST WAS WON (1979) in this 2-disc set http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BXTDVEO/ref=olp_product_details?ie=UTF8&me=&seller= The title change confuses people, but it's a well-writ, well-p...

Re: reading Western Books

Regarding your avatar, I hope Rita doesn't intend to eat the turkey all by herself. I found some errors of fact and errors of omission in the book. Now that I've had more time to think about it I find myself in serious disagreement with some of the the author's interpretation. But on the whole, it's...

Thought I had WAGON TRAIN, but I don't. Damn. Now you've got me wanting to see it. Will go looking for it.

Have the poster, though:

Re: 1930s most under-rated westerns

I think I have WAGON TRAIN (1940) with Tim Holt. I'll give it another look. Since 1940 is the endcap of the 1930s decade it belongs here rather than in the 1940s list, which is forthcoming. FRONTIER MARSHAL has been released on DVD-R by Fox: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0089BSNBU/ref=olp_produc...

1930s most under-rated westerns

What are the most over-looked, under-rated, neglected westerns of the 1930s? That's the decade running from 1931 to 1940. The decade is generally thought to have produced hundreds of mediocre, hour-long programmers -- which it did -- but personally, I think many fine and important westerns were atte...

most under-rated westerns of the 1950s

What are the 15 most under-rated, over-looked and neglected westerns of the 1950s? That's the decade running from 1951 to 1960. Here is my list: 1960 The Unforgiven (MGM) directed by John Huston. 1960 Hell Bent for Leather (Universal) directed by George Sherman. 1960 Flaming Star (Paramount) directe...
