Re: TCM Classic Film Festival (April 22-25, 2010)

Yup, that's the Big Trail Duke... what a doll. (I confess I am a big John Wayne fan.) I forgot to include in my post last night that Grover Crisp mentioned during his Jubal remarks that Sony is also doing a restoration of Picnic. (Yay again!) Maybe they'll screen it at next year's Fest if it's ready...

Re: Sue Sue's TCM Film Festival Tidbit Travel Blog

HI SUE!!

(I wrote that standing next to Sue while she told me a Juanita Hall anecdote from the Imitation of Life screening and is also reading my post.

Sadly I don't have any guys to meet like Sue so I'll think about some of the cute actors I've seen on screen.

Re: TCM Classic Film Festival (April 22-25, 2010)

Hi, Moraldo, I never even saw the Lufts. Supposedly they were there but in that packed auditorium they were impossible to spot. I should add that the projection of ASIB was digital and it looked splendid. I'm writing this right next to Sue Sue Applegate -- we're using the hotel Macs and I glanced ov...

Re: TCM Classic Film Festival (April 22-25, 2010)

I thought I wouldn't have computer access during the festival but the Roosevelt has two Macs in the reception area for guest use. Yay! I stepped out of the shuttle at the hotel to find Eli Wallach standing there with a festival escort. I couldn't resist saying hello and thanks for coming to the fest...

Re: Sue Sue's TCM Film Festival Tidbit Travel Blog

I'm packing!!! I wonder what essential thing I will forget. I've told my husband to remind me ten times at least to make sure I have my pass. And could someone please clone me as they've scheduled A Star Is Born, Dirigible and Neptune's Daughter poolside with Esther Williams and Betty Garrett more o...

Re: *CANDIDS*

I met George Takei a couple of years ago. I was in Los Angeles visiting a friend and we went to see a screening of Scarface at... oh dang, I can't remember the name of the theater, but it had been restored rather than torn down -- apparently miracle in L.A.! -- and it's gorgeous. My friend and I wer...

Re: MURNAU, BORZAGE AND FORD AT FOX

I screencapped City Girl. What can I say? It was an irresistible impulse. If you've seen the movie, you'll understand. :)

4 albums, 3,995 screencaps.

Re: *CANDIDS*

Referring back to the April 17 birthdays (and since we're on the subject of "how fast time flies and people age!")... herewith is Anne Shirley, age 10 and then known as Dawn O'Day. Not a candid but a shot from City Girl. ;) What a sweetie! http://img535.imageshack.us/img535/3684/dawna.jpg

Re: Criterions Announces Red Shoes/Black Narcissus

I'm mentioning Black Narcissus because a) it has a "new, restored high-definition digital transfer" (per the Criterion web page linked above) and not only is it being re-released on DVD with this new transfer, but it's getting its first Blu-ray release. That is news worth mentioning, at le...

Re: Errol Flynn Adventures Collection

OK, the official announcement. Looks like TCM is going all out on this one! Yay Errol Flynn! I'm kind of on a Flynn kick right now and this is manna from cinematic heaven. :) TCM SPOTLIGHT: ERROL FLYNN ADVENTURES RESTORED AND REMASTERED ERROL FLYNN CLASSICS NEW TO DVD AUGUST 3 Desperate Journey ∙ No...

Re: Errol Flynn Adventures Collection

They meet a number of Germans along the way, some who actually want to help and some who are only faking it in order to betray them later to the authorities. I remember one particularly chilling sequence thereof where Flynn's fugitive team are welcomed under cover of darkness into the actual home o...

Re: Errol Flynn Adventures Collection

I saw Desperate Journey on TCM not too long ago and thought it was terrific with an excellent performance from Flynn. Flynn is the commander of a bomber but the plane is hit and crash lands, and then Flynn has to lead his men (including Alan Hale of course -- and also future prez Ronald Reagan) in a...

Re: Errol Flynn Adventures Collection

They can call it Errol Flynn Does the Boogie-Woogie Bugle Boy Set and I wouldn't care, as long as they release it. ;) Finally, a break in the drought of pressed DVDs! Now if only Fox would turn on the spigot again. They don't even have an MOD Archive-type program.
