Re: Marlene Dietrich

There is an interesting documentary that she made at the end of her life, simply called Marlene and directed by Maxmillian Schell, it's a strange documentary, I don't think it does her any favours, for a woman who knew everything about the camera and how it presented her and how she safeguarded tha...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

The script for ROBIN & 7 HOODS ran so long that they were forced to cut a Sinatra number, "I Like To Lead When I Dance. " He made a great recording of it that appeared on his album Sinatra 65. They should of cut a half hour out of that script and allowed the music to carry the movie. A...

Re: The Columbia Ranch and More!

Back in the 80's (I'm dating myself...) I delivered mail for Warner Records and got to enter the Burbank Studios everyday - which was a real kick for a movie buff. I would quickly deliver my errands and then go rubberneck around until I was needed back at the office. I never saw Clint Eastwood but h...

Re: The Americanization Of Emily

When I was selecting a cross section of favorite movie scenes for this video, most of the films I picked had a set scene in mind that I had to use. However, when it came to TAOE there was such an abundant array of smartly written scenes that I kept switching. Garner was given 3 or 4 great speeches i...

Re: Abbott & Costello

The "Crazy House" routine got all chopped up in post-production editing as the producers didn't understand how surreal it was suppose to be. They also didn't realize they were tampering with an all-time burlesque classic skit so when they only used drips and drabs of what was filmed and th...

I wouldn't recommend anything by Andy Edmonds. I find her to be a bit of a hack.

So it begs the question was he right in his assessment of the film, or as many consider it the first classic movie. You need to watch these films yourself so you can make your own assessments. Then you can take on Merton's judgement with your own and watch the feathers fly. And no film historian ac...

Re: Chayefsy's NETWORK notes in N.Y. Times

When I originally read this article in the paper I had to laugh when Chayefsy had Cary Grant on his wish list for Beale. But then I began mulling it over and I thought of Grant's disheveled manic look in FATHER GOOSE (before he was smitten with love) and I too could see him in that role. Not that he...

Crawford's other great contribution to the war effort was ABOVE SUSPICION - (1943).
It was designed to be an espionage thriller but MGM's trailer plays it up like a screwball comedy.

Re: Arizona's Little Hollywood -- highly recommended

Sedona is a lovely area but marred with being a bit of a tourist trap.
However, they have buildings who's walls are lined with framed photos
of westerns filmed there in the past 60 years. It passes the time if one
is not interested in ceramic cactus's.
