Re: ASK ALEXA!

Hi, Alexa!

I've always been curious about the song played for the last couple of years in the morning programming - the one that goes with the pop-up book intro? Is this an older song, or a newer song recorded to sound old? It reminds me greatly of Fats Waller. What is it? Who wrote it?

Re: The September 2014 Schedule for TCM

Oh god, I love Crossing Delancey . It's the best known of the two movie appearances of Yiddish theatre great Reizl Bozyk , who plays Amy Irving's grandmother, Bubbie Kantor. http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll360/tippy99/tippy99099/lex-bozyk-reizl.jpg http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll360/tippy...

Re: Favorite TV Shows

Masha, I've been dying to see the new Doctor Who. I think I saw it listed on Hulu Plus for those of us who don't have BBC America in our cable lineup. There are also a ton of special Doctor Who documentary programs there as well.

Re: Favorite TV Shows

Red, it warms my heart that SUPERMAN will once again be airing on television. You know how popular the show was when you have an involuntary reaction to any of it's cast showing up somewhere else. John Hamilton shows up quite often in TCM movies, and I still always say to myself, "There's PERRY...

Re: College Profs on Film: Good, Bad or Just Ewwww?

That was beautifully put, red! Yes, I think today the message is VERY relevant... when there are those who would castigate or even threaten a person for espousing a different opinion than theirs. Upholding the ideals on which this country was founded on has always been tough, especially when everyon...

It's a fascinating story, Robert. So sad that she lost her life before it really began.

Re: WHAT FOREIGN FILMS HAVE YOU WATCHED LATELY?

I'm totally with you on the Jeanne Moreau day. I would not only get down on bended knees, I'd actually prostrate myself in front of TCM headquarters and/or any of the staff to thank them for that incredible lineup! You still have some of the best films to see! I agree about La Notte , but it's a den...

Re: The September 2014 Schedule for TCM

I LOVED the "No Talent Joe" number, kr! I actually went to look it up on youtube afterwards, it cracked me up so much. "What he lacks....he doesn't need." Great number.

Re: College Profs on Film: Good, Bad or Just Ewwww?

Masha - I can't believe I didn't think of professor Tommy Turner before either! His reciting of the Sacco and Vanzetti letter is very moving. Although my favorite part of The Male Animal is the reciting of football player's names on the roster by Eugene Pallette! A veritable melting pot of 'all- Ame...

Re: Favorite TV Shows

I used to love Get Smart. I haven't seen it in years. Maybe it's time to come around to it again.

I discovered Quantum Leap this morning from 6 to 10 am ET on Esquire channel.

Oops! Another prof we forgot: http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll360/tippy99/classic%20film/maleanimal.jpg Where he falls on the list I don't know... some may think he's the cat's pyjamas, others may find him insufferable. Awww, heck. He's pretty cute. And cute goes a long way in forgiving a profe...

A few professors who might make you think twice about inviting them in for a drink (one's credentials as a professor are singularly lacking)....No, definitely NOT marriage material. http://i312.photobucket.com/albums/ll360/tippy99/classic%20film/fb1804a9-2257-4540-b232-38068cfda07f.jpg http://i312.p...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Masha, I've seen a few of the Sherlock Holmes series and feel they capture the good humoredness of the Rathbone/Bruce movies, while staying more within a Conan Doyle framework. I too like Watson quite a bit in these, and feel the same about Ronald Howard's looks, sadly. :D I haven't seen them for a ...

Re: The September 2014 Schedule for TCM

Jut for the record, Paul Newman, while technically not jewish, had a jewish father and felt himself to be a jew. Yeah, it surprised me too. Is there a cuter pooch in cinema than that nice little doggie in OBSESSION? Man's best friend indeed, and worth ten of Sally Gray's character. :D I really enjoy...
