Re: LONGMIRE

It's so unfair. I have trouble enough paying my U-Verse bill, and now I have to join Netflix in order to see Longmire. I wouldn't mind so much if it was still just $4.99 to join in, but as it always goes whenever something catches on, the price goes up. But, I guess I can wait a couple of weeks and ...

Re: All About Shirley in July

. It doesn't matter how many times I see any particular Shirley Temple movie, I can't resist any of them. They can bring as many kid actors around as they like, but there will never be a match for Shirley. The singing was one thing, I could sing whole songs at 3 myself, but to remember the lines of ...

It is my considered opinion . . .

. I have discovered that when watching a remake, you must have NOT seen the original. I guess it's just human nature to compare, but often there is absolutely no comparison that is fair and just. I just saw the remake of Winchester 73 with Tom Tryon and John Saxon. Tom is definitely no Jimmie Stewar...

Re: PBS

, I'm so glad you folks are becoming fans of the Doc. I've watched it from the first time it was televised here in the States. About a year ago I tried to convince other members to try it for a couple of episodes but I don't have the golden tones you have to make the characters enjoyable rather than...

Re: Gunsmoke

. I only watch westerns on Encore Western Channel mainly because of the no commercials thing. However, from your description, I'm glad only the black and white episodes are shown, since I hate to think of such a fine show becoming its own charicature. I don't watch any filmed shows made during the l...

Best Little Whore House in Texas

, I've written about this before several years ago, but for the first time in at least 2-3 years, I sat and viewed the whole movie last weekend. I had forgotten how uplifting and fun this movie is. Even though the guys may not like musicals, how can they help not enjoying the girls sitting around an...

Re: I can't believe I watched the whole thing!

. No cudos expected because I went in expecting to hate it, but a few years ago I watched Roshomon with the same feeling and came away actually liking it more than the later Paul Newman American version. I really DID try to watch with an open mind though because I thought if something has hung aroun...

I can't believe I watched the whole thing!

, Now I know why I waited 41 years to see Blazing Saddles. At this time in my life I can spare 158 minutes of time knowing nobody is going to need me quickly or for any reason, but I still cannot believe I sat through this whole pile of garbage. After all these years of hearing how funny it was, I g...

THE ENEMY BELOW

. Although I've seen this movie time and time again, if I can force myself to wait a while, when I do watch it, it seems like the first time as so many of our favorites do. Of course it helps to have Bob Mitchum as the star, but this one never loses it's sense of desperation, and suspense. You know ...

Miss Fishers Murder Mysteries

. Two Weeks ago I ordered the first season of this series and it arrived on Thursday. I was so thrilled that I sat down and had a little marathon of my own with a glass of wine and a bowl of popcorn. Unfortunately, however, I watched too many and again on Saturday morning, so that I finished all fou...

Re: Series Finales

, I couldn't believe the final show of Dave Letterman. During his entire tenure he did and allowed crazy and wonderful things. I expected a re-hash of some of the more nutsy moments, like some of the kid scientists (they pulled some good ones), and NO WILD ANIMALS!%? I really looked forward to that ...

Movieman and Red River: I truly believe that Stewart Granger was the best swashbuckler of the era, including Errol Flynn. Granger has the swagger and ego down pat, I guess because he was personally pretty much of a flirt, but he had the looks for it.

Re: New York Times Magazine Piece on TCM

Red River: we've been heading down that path you mentioned for the last 15 to 20 years now. Practically every movie uses the green screen now rather than crowd scenes, or even two or three customers in a store in the background. Most actors (and I use the term loosely), hate the green screen. I don...

THE WIND

. For the second time in my life I sat and watched a silent movie from beginning to end. I am not a fan of them because most of you know I like to have my hands busy while watching TV, like crocheting, doing a cross stitch, or anything else rather than just sitting like a lump. So when I saw the ad ...
