Re: She Wore a Yellow Ribbon

I wouldn't have thought John Wayne the radio type. The man's no Jack Benny!

Re: 2014 tv shows new and continuing

***************MAD MEN SPOILERS OUT THE WAZOO****************** I liked the finale OK. It was VERY intriguing. But that's too much Happily Ever After for such a dark and brooding drama. Five out of six characters get everything they want. Pete could have gotten the job of a lifetime, but left his fa...

Re: Series Finales

LZ Cutter, I'll respond on the TV SHOWS thread. Anybody who hasn't seen MAD MEN by now probably won't care about spoilers!

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

Girl of the Bronx! I thought of you when I watched William Castle's MACABRE recently. Special ordered by the library, no less! It's not the director's best work, but the creepy, melodramatic atmosphere is sensational. It's all you'd expect from The Master of Schlock. Inappropriate burial, people lit...

Re: Series Finales

CHEERS was a good one. I heard BARNEY MILLER was good. Didn't see it. I was disappointed in MASH. It had once been my favorite show; for a while anyway. Later seasons failed to maintain that high quality. The finale re-hashed several plot elements from previous stories. Sent one character away, then...

Sugar looks at me like I'm crazy when I object to her wildness. "You DON'T want to chase rabbits? Are you insane?"

Re: 2014 tv shows new and continuing

I'm sad that this complex story has ended. As often happens with well written characters, I miss them. It doesn't mater if they're happy, sad or dead. They're gone. It's been a fantastic seven seasons.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

without Boris Karloff actually playing the character

It's a good play either way. But it must have been SO much funnier with Boris in the role! I often wonder, did the playwright know Karloff would be cast? Or was that just a case of unbelievably good fortune?

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

As Svengoolie pointed out, Frank Albertson played Sam Wainwright (Hee-Haw!) in the Capra film. Harry Bailey was played by Todd Karns.

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

I recommend MAN MADE MONSTER without reservation. Not even in the "so bad it's good" vein. This is an entertaining, exciting programmer. Much like the comic books I loved as a child, the story explodes in the first shot. (Are you paying attention, modern filmmakers?) Instantly, you get the...

Re: This week on SVENGOOLIE...

Lon Chaney, Jr in MAN MADE MONSTER? Have we seen this recently? Have I seen it at all? I honestly don't remember! Wikipedia says it was Lon's debut in Universal horror. The story synopsis sounds delightfully campy. This is going to be a big day for me. The Kentucky Derby, the library's celebration o...
