The Loved One, 1965 Comedy I watched this movie last night and after watching it for the first 50-60 minutes - I couldn't not take it anymore and I declared this movie - a dark comedy not worthy and I hope anyone here did not what this m...

Re: The Spaghetti West

Death Rides a Horse (1967) might be considered Giulio Petroni's best film by SW critics, but I much prefer And For a Roof a Sky Full Of Stars made one year later with the great Giuliano Gemma. Where Death Rides seemed to emulate the Leone formula, Sky Full of Stars opened many doors in the Italian ...

Re: Want to Introduce Someone to Classic Film. Suggestions?

I would agree with Masha. You have to find where a person is at and connect at that point. I would not expect a fan of SciFi, or Adventure to like Duck Soup, or My Man Godfrey. There are plenty of great classic films within those two genres--begin there.

His collaborations with cult siren Barbara Steele ( Castle of Blood [1963], The Long...

Re: The Spaghetti West

Although originating in America and becoming popular in the 1950's, the psychological revenge western is the basis for much of the Spaghetti genre. While this concept was played in various forms, Gianfranco Baldanello's Black Jack aka On Your Knees Django (1968) pushes these ideas to the utmost limi...

Love the story about trying for British accents in Romeo and Juliet! There was a very nice fellow that I knew quite well named Milt Subotsky. Although Milt was originally a New Yorker, he was co-founder of Amicus productions, which was extremely successful making horror films in Britain. His first,...

Re: The Spaghetti West

The Spaghetti in prime time tonight! Some good films showing with For a Few Dollars More (1965) heading the list in its rightful place as the most influential film of the genre. Death Rides a Horse (1967) is derivative of Leone's film and written by the same script man, Luciano Vincenzoni, who also ...

Re: MOVIE TITLES: Best and Worst

I personally love the crazy Italian giallo titles like Your Vice is a Locked Room and Only I Have the Key (1972) (putting that on a marquee must have been fun), Seven Notes In Black (1977), The Flower with Petals of Steel (1973), or Lizard in a Woman's Skin (1971), where the labels are as enigmatic ...

Thanks for posting. They will also be showing Guns for San Sebastian (1968), which I have been wanting to see for some time. TCM premiered it over a year ago, but I missed it. Good things come to those who wait.

Re: The Spaghetti West

When Mr. ChiO held a poll for best Shakespeare adaptation last year, Enzo G. Castellari's 1968 flick Johnny Hamlet was one of my picks. I knew the film had no hope of winning, but it remains perhaps the most surrealistic Spaghetti Western ever released, challenged only by Keoma (1976) made by the sa...

Re: The March 2014 Schedule for TCM

Does anyone have recommendations among the early John Garfield movies: Dust Be My Detiny, Four Wives, They Made Me a Criminal, East of the River , and Flowing Gold/]? Dust is the best of the four and I have a review on it somewhere here. The other films are entertaining for Garfield's presence and ...
