Re: Ben Johnson

I lost my internet there for a bit, got it back now, so I just saw this magnificent but heartrending picture: http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/pvitari/Ben%20Pics/SWAYR-6C-1.jpg http://i742.photobucket.com/albums/xx61/pvitari/Ben%20Pics/SWAYR-6snipe.jpg That's amazing ... great find, Paula! Oh, how did you guess! (Actually, I can't even say it, so the only way I can use it is in the written form. )

Re: Ben Johnson

Great picture! Wonderful seeing him look so happy. :)

I wonder if he had gotten (at least a little) over his aversion to flying by that time?

P.S. Not that I fault him, I think I've got Pteromerhanophobia myself!

Re: I Wake Up Screaming

I love finding movies on youtube. I found I Wake Up Screaming there last year, disguised under the title Ey Waykup Skreeming. Even VICKI, the remake is pretty good. I haven't seen Vicki (1953), but it occurs to me that Elliott Reid might make a poor substitute for Victor Mature (and the poor guy wou...

Re: Ben Johnson

Beautiful pictures! (Well, you know what I mean;-) Some Trucolor prints I've seen tend to add an extra tint of red... one of the Trucolor Roy Rogers films (unrestored) I saw made Trigger look a red-chestnut. I can only imagine what the process would have made Maureen O'Hara's hair look like over the...

Re: I Wake Up Screaming

I think that the "I Wake Up Screaming" phrase may come from the nightmares that one sister has about her sibling's demise. In the story the girls are watched and visited surreptitiously by some of the men in their thrall, sometimes unbeknownst to the girl and there is a scene when the sur...

Re: I Wake Up Screaming

I wouldn't class it as one of my favorites , but I liked it fine. Betty Grable and Victor Mature are likeable leads, but Laird Cregar was almost too creepy for me. I do wonder as to why they chose that particular title ... it could have applied to the part where Mature wakes up and finds Cregar in h...

Moira and Jack, in regards to the "brogue", glad you enjoyed it!

It's been a little while since I've seen it, but shouldn't that be Catholic priest?

Re: Ben Johnson

Make that a third in agreement about Patrick Wayne. There's nothing wrong with him really, I think critics just had it in for him because he was Wayne's son. Ben was supposed to be in The Quiet Man! According to Hedda Hopper's column on August 17, 1948, he was one of the lead players! I can't for th...

Re: Ben Johnson

Mary-Kate, cancel that Amazon order and order it from Screen Archives -- it's a few dollars less and I think will ship more quickly: Hmmm ... trouble is, I bought it (at $15.99) with some $10 discs, bringing the total up to $25 (free shipping). But strangely, they shipped half my order, and that ha...

Re: Ben Johnson

The Tomboy and the Champ DVD arrived today -- by some miracle, I snagged the one copy available at DVD Empire. Glad to hear someone's copy arrived; and the pictures show definite improvement! :) Thanks for the 2nd batch too, they serve as a nice "preview". Mine still hasn't shipped yet, a...

Re: Ben Johnson

Amazon is the pits for ordering MOD discs -- you can wait forever. I hope your order ships soon, Mary-Kate. (Or has it shipped?) I hope so too - and nope, not yet. :| But the good news is that my Fort Defiance idea actually worked! And Stranger On My Land arrived today, so my holdup is going to be ...

Re: Ben Johnson

You girls crack me up. :) Make 'em laugh, make 'em laugh! Mary-Kate, let us know what you think of Stranger on My Land. I love that action sequence with Ben, though for some reason the bit that I REALLY love is when he kicks down the fence (or is it a sign? can't remember) from the saddle. I ...

Re: Ben Johnson

Quick! If he's going down, you can steal his boots! :D Good idea ... gee, now I'm getting into Coffer and T.C. territory, my morals have really down downhill. I did make an ebay purchase yesterday, albeit one of considerably lesser value than the boots: a 25 cent DVD of Stranger on My Land,...
