Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Totally understand. There are people who just flat out annoy me & I can't stand watching. Sometimes the the story is so good I enjoy it in spite of them. Other times...

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Lonely are the Brave works for me for a variety of reasons. 1) One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest as western. When you look at Douglas' role, it's clearly based on R.P. McMurphy--right down to breaking out of jail. Douglas loved the book & bought the rights (even played it on stage), but could nev...

Re: Giallo

Cool. All the greats are there (as well as some OK guys, who made a couple of great films!). Tessari & Crispino have really started to shine in my estimations. Tessari's Bloodstained Butterfly (1971) & Death Occurred Last Night (1970) are great films, but when I discovered that he made Pisto...

Re: Giallo

Sounds great! I will look into this. So many of these movies have limited dialogue because the actors were different nationalities & the voices were dubbed later, just like Spaghetti westerns, so the music & score plays a much greater role than a movie made at the same time in the U.S.. Unfo...

Re: The September 2014 Schedule for TCM

Obsession & The Sniper are great--don't miss them. Another feature not mentioned is The Devil Commands (1941), which rarely plays on TCM. I think it's one of Karloff's finest performances.

Re: WHAT FILMS HAVE YOU SEEN LATELY?

Blade Runner: The Final Cut (2007) I watched: Blade Runner (1982) several times soon after its release and I liked it very much. It has been perhaps fifteen years since I have watched it so I am sorry to say that I do not remember such details that I can compare the original to this version. I do h...

Re: Festival of Italian Poliziotteschi in NYC

Yes, Nero was in Confessions of a Police Captain (1971), while Florinda Bolkan is in Investigation of a Citizen Under Suspicion (1970), also classified as Giallo, which brings us to an important point: Many of these films are labeled by genre, but they often mix genres, much like Noir does. I consid...

Re: Festival of Italian Poliziotteschi in NYC

I'm sure there was a lot of influence jumping back & forth. Poliziotteschi was in full swing by the early 70's, but roots go back to the mid 60's. Italy was the home of the mob & although some of these flicks were inspired by American gangster films of the 30's, the points of origin are righ...

Two great films. The Pawnbroker also has a nice soundtrack by Quincy Jones.

Festival of Italian Poliziotteschi in NYC

Starts today. If you're in the Big Apple & want to discover more about Italian police thrillers, this would be a good series to attend. Some great films that have never been released in the U.S., including Bandits in Milan (1968) & Confessions of a Police Captain (1971). Trailer: [youtube]ht...
