I'm going on vacation to Utah for my son's wedding very soon! There are some beautiful mountain ranges there, and I'm taking a friend along, so we'll have time to do some exploring while my son and his wife are on their honeymoon. There's also a FamilySearch Center in Temple Square that I may visit ...

I thought I must have just missed John C. somehow, but his footage is missing in this one, Ah-ha! He's an interesting actor, has a unique face. My step father really enjoyed the movie as well and commented that it was a "good movie" when the end credits rolled. :D

Thanks to a friend, I was able to see Under Two Flags , with an all star cast including Ronald Colman, Rosalind Russell,Claudette Colbert and Victor McLaglen. Although there are some action sequences, this is basically a junior Beau Geste self sacrificing love story. Colman's self deprecating, ironi...

Yes Gagman, I've seen it. You're right, a really wonderful Lars Hanson vehicle! Good story, good acting, beautiful print. I had forgotten about that one, shame on me! I'll have to look for it and revisit it soon!

Mr.Brownlow, I just want to second everyone's comments about how generous you are to share your time with us and the importance your work has had on the film community! You shouldn't be concerned about the technology, you have done a fine job! :) I have one final question: What do you consider your ...

Dear Mr. Brownlow, Thank you so much for your kind response! :) The Hollywood series is very dear to my heart and made the silent era of film making and all the creative people in front of and behind the camera come to life for me! Thank you so much for this amazing filmed record of their thoughts a...

Mr. Brownlow, I just want to extend a very warm welcome to you and thank you for visiting with us! I have spent many a wonderful hour viewing your documentaries and reading your books! They have greatly increased my knowledge and appreciation of silent film. One question that I have is how did you c...

I like all the silent comedians and they all have their specialty. Chaplin with his Little Tramp characterization, pathos, and grace, Buster with his athleticism and outrageous stunts, and Lloyd with his everyman persona. I like Lloyd's nerdy ordinary guy the best though. I seem to relate to him the...

He was a good actor. I've recently seen him in three other films dating from the teens that came out on the new The River DVD. He had very curly hair like Chaplin and a dimple in his chin. A multi talented man. There are many early directors that made their start as actors. Mack Sennett comes...

It is like a fairy tale with a moral to it. Sessue plays madman and lover with equal effectiveness. The other movie bundled in the set isn't nearly as good in my opinion, although it does have Frank Borzage in one of his more noted roles as actor. He actually made four films with Sessue!

I am the only hard core classic movie buff in my family in that I like silents. My parents are elderly and don't want to go to the bother of reading title cards, but they do get TCM and enjoy movies from the 40's, 50's and 60's. I usually take a couple of classic movies with me when I go for a visit...

The Dragon Painter

The Dragon Painter was long considered lost, but was rediscovered in France and brought to the George Eastman House for restoration. Sessue Hayakawa is probably best known for his performance in The Bridge on the River Kwai , but he was actually a silent film star of some acclaim. This film was mad...

I totally agree with Kyle and Christine. This movie has a German Expressionistic feel to it while being completely modern in look and story. The camera work in the street scenes remiinds me a bit of "Sunrise." And the montages of "Progress" and the wreckage of the old way of life...

I have to agree with you Christine that Brent was not an interesting actor- even when he was opposite Bette Davis. I very much prefer her opposite Claude Rains, who by the way, was her favorite actor to work with.

:( I feel so badly for you Alison! Maybe the weather will improve and you can get out for a road trip somewhere! If not, all the suggestions made sound like winners.
