Re: Welcome to Kendra Bean, Our Guest Author on 10/18 & 10/21
Hi Kendra I hope I'm not to late. I'm Stuart and I'm from Dundee in Scotland I wonder if you agree with me that Viiven sacrficed her film career in odrer to support her husband, Larry Olivier as actor Manager of the Old Vic Theater Company. IMO she was a far better film actor than him, despite the f...

Claire Bloom back in Doc Martin
Spoiler I'll try not to give to much away, but Claire Bloom is back in Doc Martin, reprising her role as the Doc's unpleasent mother, Margaret, 8 years after her last appearence. It seems she's trying to worm her way into her son's good books, since her husband has died, at a time when Martin is adj...

Early Ray Milland flick The Flying Scotsman
Spoiler I've really only seen the end of this part silent, part talkie British movie, The Flying Scotsman (1929) with the young Welsh actor Ray Milland, but it looks impressive. It appears to be about a railway engineer played by Moore Marriott, who had his drunken fireman sacked before his final tr...

Re: Welcome to Martha Crawford Cantarini
Hi Martha I was impressed by Anne Baxter in Yellow Sky, but up until now thought she did most of her own stunts in the film. I assume however, Jean Simmon's was doubled for the scene where she gallops up an incline and jumps of her horse. I liked action heroines, but thought they were far between in...

I was thinking of the more mature heavier Stephen Fry. I'll try and find a link

Cliff-Wuthering Heights-finale
I've often praised Cliff Richard for his perfomance as Wuthering Heights Heathcliff. It might not be Laurence Olivier, but still pretty special. Here's the finale

Re: New Tricks new cast
Spoiler It's funny in this series, that 2 of the episodes with regular cast member's leaving, turned out to be two of the best episodes over the the shows 10-year run. Alun Armstrong, as Brian Lane, went out on a high with almost a suggestion in the plot that he and his wife Esther, played by Sue Ja...

Re: I've Gotta Horse
Hi Fossy
Thanks for the info. It must have happened before, but I still imagine it's unusual for an actress to use her on vocals on some songs in a film and be dubbed on others. I didn't think I've Gotta A Horse wouldbe that well known outside the U.K

Idol On Parade
I finally got to see Idol On parade with Anthony Newley, a film which parody's Elvis's draft into the army. In the film Newley's Jeep Jackson is called up for his National Service and is sent to the wrong posting. There was a Henry Jackson, played by Bernie Winter's, who got sent to what was suppose...

I've Gotta Horse
Spoiler I hadn't seen I've Gotta Horse (1966) for about 30-years until recently and I wasn't disappointed. When I first saw the film in the early 70s I was amazed I'd never heard of the films star Billy Fury before, he was that good. However, I later discovered, like Bobby Darin, Billy had a serious...

David Jacobs talks Garland/Sinatra
I hope members on the forum don't mind me paying tribute to 2 other British entertainers who died over the last few days. With the death of David Frost it's been a sad day for British light entertainment. Mike Winters was one half of the brother double act Mike And Bernie Winters fame. As a double a...

Re: David Frost has died
Alison It's ironic that just a few days before David Frost's death, former Ryder cup winning Captain Bernard Gallager, the father of presenter Kirsty Gallagher had a heart attack either just before or during a speech he was to give in Aberdeeen. David himself was due to give a speech on an ocean lin...

David Frost has died
14285.1 It's sad to report but broadcaster David Frost died last night of a heart attack. David made his name in Satire shows That Was The Week That Was and The Frost Report. David in those shows also made stars of John Cleese (Mony Python and A Fish Called Wanda), The Two Ronnies and singer Millice...

Talk of another Royal Wedding
There's talk of another Royal Wedding, but this time with a difference. It's been suggested Prince Andrew will remarry Sarah (Fergie) Fergurson, after being divorced for many yrs. They've been living in the same house for some time now and are said to be devoted parents
